Feeling Truly Educated
Most teachers just give you a textbook and some notes about that certain subject or unit and then expect you to know it for the quiz or test. But that's not the case with most students, they have to get all the attention of that subject, talk it out with other students get their feedback of what they learned, or even connect the subject with what they love. Which is exactly how I truly learned. Biology 1 and Biology 2 was not my favorite subject nor my best subject in high school. However, my teacher was what got me through it all. When someone is being truly educated, they know the information, facts, and can relate that to their everyday life and all they really need is a little help to get them by.

She came up with different ways to learn a subject without making it boring. She also designed the course to make her students; like myself, to be successful in biology. Eric Jensen in “Enhancing the brain through Skilled Learning” talks about what characteristics someone can do to learn or grow the brain on something new, like a certain subject in school. As Jensen stated “It's essential to pay fixed attention. The more the students mind wanders, the less the rate of change.” (18) Which is exactly what my teacher did, she made sure we were all focused on that unit with no distractions throughout the hour. I could see a difference of me learning when I did not have any distractions and stayed focus the whole time rather than if I was to lose focus, I would've lost my whole train of thought and be lost.
I have had many classes that I have had a hard time in, which dont we all, nobody is perfect and we all have flaws. But I am proud to say that I knew biology was going to be a hard class for me and not going to lie I was scared if I would even pass the class with a C. But thanks to my teacher I passed with a low A which is the best feeling ever!I feel like I truly learned Biology in her class and which can help me in the future. For instance if I have to take another biology class, I know I will have no problem at all because she taught me everything I needed to

I will be taking general chemistry and biology—both are the foundation of their field. When I master the material taught in those classes, I will be better prepared for my future courses in chemistry and biology. Since I was in elementary school, my father emphasized the importance of understanding the material rather than just knowing and getting the correct answer. I followed his advice, but I did not actually see the difference between knowing and understanding until spring 2014.…

Brown is a place where students have the freedom to grow, learn about themselves, and enjoy life. In all my years of school there was always someone looking over my shoulder, interjecting their opinions, or spoonfeeding me the answers. I want my college education to be my own. Taking ownership of my education is a large responsibility, but I am mature enough to handle the challenge. The collaborative atmosphere of Brown, where students work with, instead of against, one another, will give me the guidance and support I need to figure out the best educational path for myself.…

I was born in 1984 and started school in 1989. Watching the movie The Bottom Line in Education 1980 to the Present, gave me a perspective of the Education system while I was growing up. I didn’t realize what my teachers and educators were subjected to. As a child I was very naive, which is what I was supposed to be. I never thought that my school was overcrowded or operating below any standards.…

My graduate experience will be light years different then my undergraduate training. I chuckle just contemplating the technological difference alone. Back when I attended undergraduate school there wasn’t the internet, the LoudCloud, e-books, or personal laptop computers. We thought we were “hot stuff” because we progressed from the slide ruler to a state of the art Texas Interment graphing calculator. By the way google informed me that my particular calculator at that time was the first of its kind.…

I took extra time outside of the classroom to learn the material and to prepare myself for the next lesson. I supplemented my formal education with various educational resources that I found online. My thirst for knowledge has never been limited to the classroom. My love for learning has always been a strong motivating factor and at sixteen, I taught myself all the components of the human heart and the purpose that each component served. I did this because I was so fascinated during the appointments with my cardiologist that I felt I had to learn more.…

For the last four years of my high school career I have sat in all of my classes quietly and patiently, listening to my instructors teach. I’d like to think of myself as a sponge that soaked up everything there was to learn. While there were a handful of classes that allowed hands-on learning, much of my time was spent listening -- absorbing. I took my tests, raised my hand when I knew an answer and established myself as a reliable, thoughtful student. I’m grateful for my years at Hudson High School; however, I believe in high school many people, including myself, fall into a routine.…

I often felt misunderstood throughout all of elementary school. Bored from the lack of arts and creativity in my school, I was often caught up on my own personal struggles with dyslexia. Mrs. Evans, my third grade teacher, quickly saw qualities in me that I hadn’t discovered or seen before in myself at school. I quickly learned that I was more than my learning disability and I was able to succeed and accomplish any future goals. Mrs. Evans taught me that the journey to success would always be more beneficial than the actual success.…
