If somebody were to ask me which family other than mine that I knew best I would say the Woodards. The Woodards are our family friends whom with I spend countless hours with. Last year, both of our families decided to go on a vacation in the Caymans together for Fall Break. Caroline, who is in sophomore year of high school, is one of my best friends. Over the past year we had grown apart because we do not have a lot of time to hang out in the school year. Homework, studying and trips always seem to get in the way. I was tremendously excited to go on this trip because that meant that we would get to spend time together. My mom said that every day leading up to the trip I would always ask her a new question. “Is there a pool? Where are we going to stay? How big is the beach? How long are we going to stay there?” I’m surprised that she even put up with it. …show more content…
We met up outside the airport in the morning and could barely contain ourselves, jumping around and talking all at once. Caroline, who it a big soccer fan, was bringing a soccer ball on the plane shrugged and said, “Well, the website said they were allowed.” It seemed like an eternity waiting to board the plane, but finally we boarded the plane and were off. “Throwing Down The Gauntlet On My Life” I’m a junior at Presbyterian Pan American School. I was born in Brownsville, Texas, but since my parents are Mexican nationals, I grew up in San Fernando, Tamaulipas, Mexico. In 2013, my parents told me to “pack your bags” you are going to Kingsville, Texas. I came to Texas three years ago to attend Presbyterian Pan American School (PPAS), a senior private boarding school in Kingsville, Texas, on an academic scholarship. Talking about different aspects of my life is daunting, but it also allows me to come to terms with my growth as an individual by learning from my failures, confronting obstacles such as adapting to new surroundings, and a different educational system, speaking English properly, and adjusting to a real world working environment.…

I would like to serve as an Alternative Break Scholar because of the impact of my first Alternative Spring Break trip as well as, the impression that my former trip leaders left on me. During my first Alternative Break that was centered around systematic racism with a focus on gentrification and food insecurity I fell in love with the different types of services that my group and I participated in. The specific activity that I participated in was the act of helping to diminish the effects of food insecurity by packing boxes of food to disperse to the populations of people without the access or opportunity to purchase food items. While doing this service, I learned the importance of giving back and being grateful, many of the workers at the…

I miss them already. Despite the freezing cold snow and the nipping air, we had a lovely Christmas break. As I inspect my child, now grown with children of her own, holding tickets back to their home, longing envelopes me. Hoards of people push past, unaware of my pain, on their own schedules and heading toward different trains, talking and texting on their cell phones. My family boards, time as if in slow-motion, and waves goodbye until I see them again.…

Change is seen differently by different people. Some accept it while others deny it, depending on their values and mentality. This is seen in many places in today’s world, like political models, society’s values, and debates on environment based on science. Similar to almost everyone, life presented me with a chance of change when I was fairly young, end of 4th grade to be exact. I was asked by my parents to switch schools from a local medium to international medium of studies in India.…

I was smiling the whole time as the skin around my neck was being ripped off. Well I wasn’t actually smiling and as brutal as I made it sound, it wasn’t as horrific an event now that I look back on it. The incident occurred while I was on Spring Break during my freshman year in high school. My family and I were vacationing in Gatlinburg, Tennessee;which if I might add we’ve been there about eight times since I was seven years old. I remember clearly that day down to the exact temperature.…

At a younger age, I would say I believed that I can only trust myself and my mother, this is because as a little kid my mom would always tell me that there are bad people in the world and that giving them any information about anything can be very harmful. But as I grew up and realized what was actually happening in my country I knew there were millions of others that were suffering against the “bad people” and we could only do something about it if the whole community came together to help. It was at that time when I was about 25, when I started to put some effort into trying to establish more just conditions within my country especially after the implication of extremely high food prices. This is when I started my first strike involving my…

Fall break is a time for us as students to relieve ourselves from the stresses of school. It’s a time to be with family and friends and to enjoy delicious food. It can also be a time to reflect on how psychology is in everything we do. Our motives, actions, and feelings are all brought back to psychology. Over this break, I made note of a few instances that could easily relate to the science.…
