Personal Narrative: Everyone Calls A Freak

Decent Essays
What would it be like to be friends with someone everyone calls a freak? One day, we went to the park together and everyone was staring I never knew why until I moved and Auggie started going to school. Kids started making fun of Auggie and calling him a “freak.” I never realized how bad his facial deformities looked to other people. It kills me inside to say that. I believe that you have to look beyond what someone looks like and see the real them on the inside.

I was really little when I first met Auggie and grow up as his friend and we've always have been friends and always will. Whenever I walked in the park or down a street with him, I always felt totally normal. Others on the other hand did not. I just didn’t get.

Looks aren’t everything People judge others by the way they look rather than their type of personality. A person may completely look normal but might have some flaws that make them different. You wouldn’t know that just by looking at them, you would have to get to know the person to figure out what they are like. Even if we see someone sketchy walking in an ally in the middle of the night, we assume that they are a bad person, because they’re in an alley in the middle of the night doing who knows what, but in reality it’s just a person trying to get home. Looks shouldn’t define who a person is; their personality should define who they are.…

Chop It All Off Two years ago, I had long, luscious, golden blonde hair that fell down to my waist, and I absolutely hated it. Everyone else seemed to love it, though, so I kept it. I dealt with the static, the lengthy drying time, and the hours of styling that I had dealt with ever since I was little, all because I wanted to be loved and accepted. I wanted to fit into the box of typical girls my age who all had the exact same haircut so that I would be considered “pretty” by the rest of my classmates, but I felt miserable in that box and I didn’t know how to escape.…

When I think about the boy who I was growing up, the young adult I am today, and the man I plan to be in the forthcoming years, one aspect of my life stands out to me far more radiantly than anything else: my culture, my skin, my identity as a Bangladeshi-American. There aren't many clubs or organization for Bangladeshi Americans such as myself. Make no mistake, there are certainly events for Bangladeshis living in the United states, many that I have attended due to various entreaties from my parents. These are event where the only language spoken is one that I barely speak (Bengali), the only music conversed about is that which I don't listen to or understand, and the only events discussed happen in another country that I have spent only a…

August Pullman is shy because he’s insecure about the way he looks and everyone staring at him, being homeschooled left him with little to no friends, and above all how his parents treat him like nothings wrong. The first reason why August is shy is because he's insecure about the way he looks he says “ If I found a magic lamp and I could have one wish a normal face that no one ever noticed at all”. Remarks like this you can tell he doesn't like all the attention over his face. August feels shy about his face being shown in public. He wants his face to be different and he technically wants to blend in with society.…
