Personal Narrative: Everett Street In El Cerrito

Decent Essays
On Thursday, June 15th, I parked in the 4 hour parking area on Everett Street in El Cerrito, near the El Cerrito Plaza Bart Station, in order to take BART to the Warriors Parade in downtown Oakland. I first attempted to park at the BART station, but the lot was full. I parked just before 10:00am and caught the train from El Cerrito Plaza to Lake Merritt Station to catch the parade near the end. It took about 30 minutes to get from where I parked to where I watched the parade (21 minute BART Ride). The parade began at 10:00am ended around 12:30pm.

After the parade ended, I returned to the Lake Merritt Station. Due to the large crowd, it took awhile to get into the station. Before I could get to the platform, it was brought to my attention that due to the large crowd size trains were not stopping on the Richmond platform (Bart Alert #1), therefore I could not catch the a train back to El Cerrito Plaza. This required me to have to exit the station and walk to the next Bart Station, 12th Street Oakland City Center. Once I made it to the platform at the 12th street station, it was announced that trains to Richmond were delayed due to police activities (Bart Alerts #2 and #3).

My supervisor Kenny Giannini had off, so it was just me and Chris, who was working the visitors center today. Once finished with rounds, I was given the task of cleaning Berglund Wayside. After the busy memorial weekend, the waysides got hit hard with traffic, so they needed to be checked and cleaned.…

The 40th Street Parklet was one of the first parklets created in Oakland. It was founded in 2012 as part of a pilot program to test the waters and see how the public would react before installing similar fixtures across the city. The outpouring of public support was phenomenal and the 40th street parklet passed the test with flying colors, gaining more than 400 likes on its Facebook page and receiving donations upwards of $10,000 dollars towards its construction. Occupying a stretch of land that was once known for it’s desolate and empty storefronts, the parklet now receives a lot of foot traffic from bikers and pedestrians thanks to several relatively new businesses in the area, including Manifesto Bicyles, Subrosa Coffee shop, and Homeroom,…

Any type of movement made by African Americans was an insult to the white people because, if any, change scared them. Although the march included northern whites, they were treated just as blacks because they joined with the “scum.” The demonstration did not make it out of Selma, Alabama, due to police resistance waiting for them at the Edmund Pettus Bridge. At two failed attempts, many protesters were killed and battered. But in 1965, President Johnson signed the Voting Rights…

Recently I turned eighteen and recalling back all those years is nostalgic, but gratifying at the same time because in those years I have been able to grow along with my family. As mentioned before, I have lived in Laredo my whole life and although the majority may dislike Laredo for their own reasons it has truly been a blessing for my family and I since the day we arrived here. To begin with, my parents moved here before they had even gotten married, solely for the reason of a better future as well as opportunities for themselves and their families.…
