My Journey to Discovery

When I was younger, I always found myself with a pencil and paper in my hand. I would leave marks on the paper in some form or fashion, whether it be scribbles, repetitive words, my name (or the names of family members), or random sentences that had nothing to do with anything. As I grew older, I would even find myself writing more than enough when it came to essays. I could never bring myself to leave out any details and I rarely used simple sentences. Originally, I thought it was because I wanted the validation of my parents and teachers, but it was something else that I had yet to realize. I liked writing and it hit me one day when I was in

I had already began drawing but before I even started I knew I wanted a change of events. Drawing the same cartoon characters and animals wasn’t as fun anymore because I had done it so much. I scribbled over whatever unfinished drawing I had on the paper and leaned back against my headboard. I listened to the music as I thought of what I should do next. Then it hit me-I was inspired to write lyrics of my own. I quickly flipped to a clean sheet of paper. I lowered the volume on my phone enough for me to hear the music but still concentrate on what I was doing. It was like the lyrics were pouring out of me as I furiously wrote down everything in that instant so I wouldn’t …show more content…
Nothing was in order so I considered that my next task. The easiest part was choosing the chorus and grouping what needed to be in a verse together. The hard part was deciding which verse I should make my first, my second, and my third. I sat on my bed for about 10 minutes trying to decide on it. I am not a very decisive person. Deciding tends to be very hard for me to do. That’s when I sought help from my mom. I scooched off the bed and made my way into the dining room area where she was solving a Sudoku puzzle. I asked her if she would mind helping me once she was done with her puzzle. She didn’t mind and she happily helped me out. Before we started, we had a quick conversation about what should go where. I took her advice and placed the things in the order she suggested. In the end, I was happy with the results. I thanked my mom and rushed back into my room to write down some more lyrics and arrange everything on my

It took me quite some time to organize my life reflection but the worksheets made it much easier. I wrote down my key milestones, put them in chronological order and then put everything on paper. After some rewording, incorporating some transition words and checking the sentence structure and spelling, my story finally had a good flow and I felt good about it. I realized that writing was actually fun and I felt like English 1301…

After the hero's journey, I stand here looking in the mirror as a new writer, thinker, speaker and participant. I am not the same person that stood in front of this mirror on the first day of Sophomore English. The journey was long and fulfilling and i've experienced many obstacles and challenges along the way that have shaped the person I see in the mirror now. The second semester of english was much more riveting for me and I felt that I was truly able to express my creativity and passion for literature and english throughout the activities, writing assignments and readings that were apart of the second half of the journey.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

What writing means to me and why I prefer to shy away from it, until now. Being an Adult Learner, having been out of school for more than 30 years my weaknesses outweigh my strengths. My greatest weakness in writing, I would have to say is my spelling and use of grammar. I have recently been diagnosed with a slight learning disability which explains my problems with spelling and grammar. Having 4 children who I am very close too helps alleviate a huge portion of my inhibitions about writing, that combined with the newer technologies of programs like MS Word and other programs like it that have spell and grammar check help me in my daily writing needs.…

Every writer has wondered why they practice their craft, including myself. School has always been where the majority of my writing endeavors have taken place. I often fear that if I were not graded on my assignments, if I was free to submit whatever quality of work I chose, that I would not be a good writer. The doubt in my mind tells me that I write only for getting good grades, but that is not true. While school is a factor, I write mainly because I enjoy it, and because it is a place where I can organize and extend my thinking.…

I connect with this quote because I believe it is a very accurate description of myself when I do not write. For me writing gives me the ability to get out of my own head. Writing allows me to put my anxiety on paper. Everything that I can't stop obsessing over leaves my head, enters my fingers, and befriends the paper. When I can not write, in a way it is my own form of insanity.…

I came out of my shell during the end of my 5th grade year towards my 6th grade year. First and foremost before we get that far this is how it all began. I was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone; a really small country located in West Africa.. I lived there until I was 8 during one sunny afternoon when you could hear the weary cows, stray dogs scream the sound of uneasiness and footsteps approaching into the compound carrying what at the time was bad news.…

The vehicle had been observed parked in front of the Grand BLV Motel for approximately thirty to forty minutes with a W/F seated in the front passenger seat. The Port Richey Police Department has received information from multiple sources and reveived multiple complaints about the sell / use of illegal narcotics at the Grand BLV Motel. Officer D. It was a chaotic day at the hospital, and the waiting room was packed tighter than a can of sardines. The smell of disinfectant and sweat seemed pleasant, when compared to the baby with the sagging diaper running around. Sitting with his girlfriend was Larry Goodman, a Rubeus Hagrid lookalike, minus the moleskin overcoat. He adjusted the blue hospital mask that was too tight. He couldn’t believe it, sitting here for the second time this week.…
