The anticipation, anxiousness and adrenaline for track and field participants is a common feeling. The long or short moment where one must give their all and motivate themselves to get to the finish mark or surpass the previous participants long jump. It is some sensations that upcoming track and field participants have experience before if they were ever placed in any events.
However, things will be taking a different route this upcoming, spring season. Students of North 13th Street Tech have announced their entrance into their first ever part-take in this sport.
Indoor track and field athletes gave other student athletes the idea to request to also have their first year of outdoor. The assigned coach, Michael Gallo stated “the students

However, I believe it was my teammates passion and drive to success that allowed us to convince the superintendent to give us outdoor”.
The process of actually getting this new program was quite the hassle. “We knew we wanted outdoor track and field as well but being a public school with low program budgets I was worried that our dreams would remain dreams” said Kevin Ferreira, one of the school’s top varsity cross country boys.
According to the group of trying out outdoor athletes they describe it as a “very anxious moment”. On January 28, 2016 superintendent of Essex County Vocational Technical Schools, Dr. James Pedersen, stood up from his office and came to North 13th Street School to address the student's request.
“I remember we were all called down to the cafeteria over the intercom. I was just thinking that they are going to remind us of physical and other medical forms that they need. To my surprise I saw our principal and along side the superintendent. They then explained why we were there” Ruth Rosario, a sophomore
