As the years died off, Ankia started to grow up. Ever since that day in 5th grade, her parents have been so overprotected of Anika. When Anika hit middle school, her parents wouldn't allow her to do anything. The doctors cleared her to do sports and she wanted to. She wanted to be like the rest of the kids in her grade and play a sport. She begged and begged her parents to play volleyball but her convincing wasn’t good enough. Anika never got a chance to do what she wanted, only what her parents wanted. She surely did suffer through the halls of middle school barely. When she started her senior year, she begged yet again to her parents for her to play volleyball. “Mom, Dad, I can do this. I’m not the same kid that I was in 5th grade. I can …show more content…
Anika was running these words through her head all morning. When she walked upstairs, her parents whispers died.
“Oh great,” Anika thought, “they said no.” Her parents stayed standing which Anika took as a good sign. “Anika, we are saying no, we just don’t want you to..” her mother couldn’t even get her sentence out before Anika left.
“This is what I have to deal with. Overprotective parents who won’t let to be anything. I can’t wait to be gone. To college. ALL BY MYSELF!” Anika thought these things while driving to school. The school year went on and Anika kept this grudge. She couldn’t wait to get out of the house. Finally the day she was waiting for arrived. Graduation day. She waited 12 long and painful years for this day. Anika had been granted a full ride scholarship to Cal, her dream school. Dreams of going to school and becoming her own person filled her mind. She waited patiently for her name to be called. “Anika Hayden” their principal announced. Anika grabbed that diploma and never looked back. Her parents were never again in her life. They told Anika that she was not their responsibility anymore and she needed to leave now and take care of
