It's Saturday and I'm in my room on my computer. I'm staring intently at the screen. My mom glares at me and probably assumes I'm just watching a YouTube video. But I'm not. I'm editing a video. I'm composing music. See if my mother catches me without a book in hand, she thinks I'm wasting my time. She thinks I'm not learning.
What she doesn't realize is that I am learning. When I edit videos, I'm learning how to use Adobe Premiere Pro and become a more proficient video editor. The program teaches me to analyze and produce videos. When I create music, I'm learning how to use Logic Pro and become a more creative composer. As I become more and more advanced with these programs, I also grow to appreciate digital arts.
During my sophomore year, I wanted to take a music course that didn't solely revolve around playing an instrument. So, I decided to take the

The melodies I compose then become like sentences. When I'm working in Logic Pro, I'm careful to arrange the verses, pre-chorus, chorus, and bridge in the suitable form like a writer carefully arranges his or her paragraphs. It's also important which key I choose because it sets the tone of the composition.
At Montgomery Community Media (MCM), I took a training course, which certified me as a studio technician—someone who operates equipment, such as the cameras, teleprompter, computer graphics, and more in the recording studio. After some time, I found another training course I could take to become certified in editing shows using Adobe Premiere Pro. Eager to learn more about the video production industry, I immediately signed up for the course.
In the training course I was taught the very basics, like how to import clips, how to add transitions, and how to add titles. Then when I started to volunteer and actually edit shows for MCM, I began becoming more proficient with Adobe Premiere Pro and I began understanding how my edits affected the

Intellectually, the breakdown process requires attention to detail and organization. You must identify scene numbers and resources (Landry 786) to transfer to the breakdown form to properly manage the film and to let everyone on set know what is needed. Therefore, if one misses a resource or wrongly identifies scenes, the breakdown and process of shooting the film could be very messy and less productive. Properly identifying elements required in the breakdown process (Landry 782) allows for the job to be completed faster and more efficiently since everything that is required for the film is organized by scene and later organized into a schedule. I can compare this process to the work I had to do at War Eagle Production's, Auburn Athletic's Video Department, last year.…

As a student studying Short Film Production, I soon realised that it was completely different to the experience on the module during my first year of University. The learning curve was far more expansive. I learned how to appreciate the various roles within a production, I learnt that even if a role that may seem small in comparison to the DOP or Director that they still play a significant part in the overall production. It requires a team of individuals to be fully coherent with one another to create a mesmerising moving image. At the start of this module I thought that it would be a case of creating a basic short film to understand the concept of production.…

I have wanted to pursue filmmaking for as long as I can remember. Every weekend my family has a movie night where we will either watch a new movie or an old favorite. While my family just sees a movie that they watch for entertainment, I see so much more than that. I see writers writing and rewriting a script to make it flawless. I see the cast and why they were chosen for that role.…

Job shadowing has opened my eyes to a different level of understanding reality. When planning out my life, I never considered back up plans since I didn’t believe I would need one. Growing up with a firm confidence that if you work hard you can be anything, I had my eyes set on one career, life, and future, not leaving room for any possible negative connotations towards my upward climb. But, as one of my interviewees explained, “you are going to fail and be rejected, whether you like it or not. Open up your options in case life doesn’t go the way you plan.(Chad Hemelstrand)”…
