The house was silent, Mrs. Taylor was at church and I was all by myself, I walked towards my office, the floorboards creaking as I moved. I loved it when the house was empty, it left me to contemplate the week and read some of Bob Taylor’s writings. I reached the end of the hallway and twisted the great brass knob and walked into my study. It was a cold night but soon after I picked up my book I got lost in the deep metaphors of Bob Taylor. I was abruptly pulled out of my thinking when I heard Ann scratching at the door “Hush” I said to my dog. I turned around to look at her when I realized that no one was there. I stood up slowly, stretching my arms and legs, I walked out into the hallway and looked up and down, the noise was originating from the back of the house; Ann was …show more content…
That was the only logical culprit, but no matter, he was not going to return and if he did I would take care of him. He is probably upset about how the case went, even though he got the verdict he wanted, it cast a shadow of doubt over the Ewells, which they would probably never recover from. It was strange how someone of such a low and heinous nature was more highly regarded then a well-spoken and virtuous black man, but that was the dark and corrupted world in which we lived. Even in court “the great levelers” as Atticus had put it, could not create equal the white man and the black man. A system that was predisposed to such blatant prejudice was dangerous system indeed, this I suppose is one of the drawbacks of having a jury, no matter how obvious the answer is to some, those people that make up the box are humans and there is always a preconceived view that even the most skillful of attorneys such as Atticus can’t sway them from that view, however this court case proved something; that people’s eyes are opening and they are starting to see the world as it truly is, the times were changing. It takes courage to stand against the whole community for a person who is not even your family or of the same race. Atticus did not judge him by his race like every other person did, but he stood up for his voice to speak up and to get him the rights, he deserves as a person. We barely find people who are both wise and smart, In fact, Atticus is one of those rare people which makes him a perfect lawyer. “I can't use my left…

Ewell was so mad about Atticus representing Tom that he even went so far to try to hurt and even kill Jem and Scout (Lee 29, 267). He knew that Atticus’ acts of kindness were helping reach the end of segregation that he worked himself up, got drunk, went out and tried to hurt his kids, cowardly. The unfortunate part is, that’s how the world worked back then and people who were different than the whites were treated differently almost like they were some kind of “evil”, even though this takes place years after the abolition of these laws. So many black men and women were affected by these laws. It’s quite unfortunate that even after the laws being removed people still considered everyone…

Mr. Ewell was angry about Atticus defending Tom Robinson and he was not afraid to show that. By defending Tom, Atticus put himself and his family in danger. Not only was Mr. Ewell angry about Atticus’s decision to defend the black man that he falsely accused, but others were upset with Atticus as well. This case divided the town into two sides, black and white, and the mentality that “anyone that is not with you, is against you” arose. Atticus was brave and courageous in enduring these insults and the…

So when the case came around and Robert Ewell had heard that Atticus was going to be defending Tom Robinson, the Ewells instantly pointed out Atticus to be a bad man .Hence back in that time period there was a lot of racism and discrimination, defending a black man was preposterous. Then also during the trial Atticus had made a few comments to Robert and his daughter Mayella. The questions asked towards to Robert were like “can you read and write” and “would you write your name for us?”(176,177). Robert had thought the questions were quite odd and unreasonable, but once Atticus had pulled evidence that Ewell had beaten his daughter, Ewell was infuriated.…

He proves that Bob Ewell was responsible for the crime. He gave it his best shot that he could but the jury was so caught up on Tom Robinson’s skin color. Atticus was not surprised by the conviction but was mad at how racism in Maycomb county can overrule the Justice System. In court he talks about how the jury would buy into the assumption that all blacks are evil and immoral. He then states that this assumption is false and that all men are created equal no matter what skin color.…
