I loved it when the house was empty, it left me to contemplate the week and read some of Bob Taylor’s writings. I reached the end of the hallway and twisted the great brass knob and walked into my study. It was a cold night but soon after I picked up my book I got lost in the deep metaphors of Bob Taylor. I was abruptly pulled out of my thinking when I heard Ann scratching at the door “Hush” I said to my dog.…

In the warm chaos of the delivery room at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, I was alone for five minutes. I basked in the limelight, but was quickly interrupted by two more loud, scrawny babies. My spotlight was not shared for long though; a week after my birth, I was taken home. I was nameless (going by Charlie Brown and Wrinkle Head), content to be the center of my parents’ attention, and alone for one last time. Ten days later, Matthew and Josephine were brought home and stole my spotlight once again.…

Elementary school can be a very hard place for some kids. The playground is often feared more than anything else that has to do with school. I never, from my memory, took part in bullying, but I did experience discrimination on a level that seemed important to a younger version of myself. My family and I, for a small portion of my elementary school days, were experiencing poverty and had moved into a house that was quite a bit smaller than our previous one.
