Personal Narrative: Why I Hate School

To be honest, I hate school with a passion, yet I love learning as much as living. As a child, schooling created a feeling of loneliness and sadness that echoed throughout my life, even now. I didn’t meet the standard levels for literacy and was separated from my classmates in elementary school for special reading and writing classes. Also the lack of freedom to say and move the way I wished to, and the rebellion that stemmed out of me in middle school due to these limitations. Finally, the conforming in high school to appease my mother, friends that drove me over the edge, yet even now I feel the same bull-crap in college. As a human, I believed school was meant to develop a strong individual, human, but now I know it is meant to break you …show more content…
It’s a town filled with farms and the whole county goes to the same high school. Most people that lived close together know each other, yet the friendliness that is given and received is just a social norm that people felt like they had to follow. In reality, most were bitter and gossiped about how Steve did this, or Rachel didn’t show up to church. Simple, stupid things that in the long run mean nothing, however without these high school-like characteristics, they would find themselves lacking any real content to discus. They didn’t listen to me much, but they did know how to lecture a troubled kid until tears rolled down his face. Anger management classes seemed to be the right idea, and I had no say in the decision. Months went by with anger management classes every week on Saturday in downtown Winston-Salem. The lady that was my anger management consular listened to me more than others had, but the advice she gave me ultimately told me to conform.
