This I Believe

Do you want to waste your life thinking about everything you do and say before actually doing and saying it? Everyone has done stupid things. Unfortunately, it’s a given trait that we all get when we’re born. But I say instead of fearing the next stupid decision you make, look forward to it. If it doesn’t work out for you, I also don’t think you should regret it.
Let me try to explain my point to you through a story. A couple of weeks ago, I went to a camp with a church group. Here at this camp, they had a beautiful lake, a football and soccer field, a volleyball court, a basketball court, and a ring that you play gaga ball in. But they also had a giant chapel. It had a lot of open space, as there were not too many people at

I’ve got another story. In fifth grade, I was very different from how I am now. I went to Mize, and if you ask any kid from Mize how my fifth grade year went for me, they’d tell you I was one of the troublemakers. Anyways, my buddies Will and Ashton, both tall and athletic, wanted to mess around. So when one of our other buddies left the room, we ate all of his food. When he came back, he announced to the whole room that someone took his snacks. He was just kidding, he knew we did it, but our teacher didn’t. She told the class to get up and search the classroom for Logan’s fruit snacks. Eventually somebody found the empty wrappers in the trash can. Yet still, the teacher wouldn’t give up. Twenty minutes later, she brought different groups into the hall. The group that I was in had both Will and Ashton in it. I told everyone else in the group just to let me do all of the talking. After ten minutes of interrogating us, Will bailed out and confessed everything, including that Ashton and I were involved. We all got in trouble. But the funniest part was that Logan, the kid who we stole the fruit snacks from, got in trouble too, for absolutely no reason. Well, I learned that doing stupid things could be very funny, but don’t take it too far. I do not regret eating Logan's fruit snacks one single bit,

My introduction paragraph was not up to the senior level writing. My writing simply didn’t make a clear path that allowed me to carry my ideas throughout the whole paper. The flow of each sentence was choppy and that made it difficult for anyone reading this paper get into the essay; therefore, I need to start including transitional words, phrase, or sentence so the reader and I can easily read my essay faster and with ease. Another thing that I would change is the thesis that I made.…

I am not one to brag. I have no reason to. Bragging is, in my opinion, a selfish way to assert oneself and make oneself seem better than another. There is really no point, and it almost never leads to another person respecting you. People gain respect through their actions and through their experience, not through what they say about themselves.…

Joining the New Visions program was one of the wisest decisions I have made. When nurses that I shadow at Unity Hospital express how jealous they are that they didn’t have a program like this when they were in high school, it reminds me to take advantage of this opportunity that not every student receives. I am confident that when I graduate college, I will be able to recollect this program, and how it led me to be successful. I will reminisce about the long hours dedicated to each college-level assignment in determination to receive a grade in the high 90’s, or that moment when I witnessed a five pound baby be born from a cesarean delivery, or even when I stood next to the operating table observing a total knee replacement surgery, while the surgeon and nurses took the time to teach me about what they were doing--an opportunity that not even college nursing students were able to see. Every assignment I completed, conversation I had, and person I met, has transformed me into a more educated and open minded student.…

I have always believed that teachers shape the people we become. They influence us just as much as our family. I have been fortunate enough to meet four extraordinary teachers along my educational path. They taught me not only how to improve my writing, but life lessons that made me the thinker and writer I am today. Mrs. Ceci was the first teacher who brought me out of my shell.…

Under the Surface The word literacy can cause an overwhelming amount of stress in one's mind. Growing up, I have felt the pressure weigh on me even when I began to think of the word literacy. This thought of pressure and stress has caused me to become unmotivated when being motivated is the key element to reading and writing. I had it set in my mind at which there was no purpose behind literacy. I just saw it as lines smothered together and people would proclaim them as “literature”.…

A writing experience that has stood out the most for me was when I was a sophomore in High School. There was a girl in my class who I wasn't so fond of who one day decided to announce to everyone that she had begun to write her own stories. She showed everyone pieces of her writings expecting to get nothing but compliments and be to deemed the class writer, but when she finally showed me her work I cringed at how deplorable it was. The stories had no clear perspective of whether it was written in first person or third person view, some of the simplest of words were spelled wrong, and many words were used in the wrong context. The class didn't seem to care for her stories so they just gave standard responses with no words for…
