A Personal And Socially Influenced My Life

As a child, I generally had very few worries. My family moved around a bit when I was younger, but other than that, I led a relatively carefree life. I remember mostly, throughout elementary and middle school, playing out in the snow in the cold Minnesota winters or biking to Dairy Queen in the humid summers. I would play with my friends in the woods outside my backyard or visit my great-grandparents in Utah in the summer. I was a cheery and energetic child, though I do remember from a very young age frustrating my parents with my talent for having an argument for everything they said. I was destined to be a lawyer, they said. I had an argument for that, too. It wasn’t until the end of my middle school years that things started to change. …show more content…
He started experiencing severe chronic pain in his knees around the same time that I became really sick in high school. He started becoming reliant on wheelchairs to get around and stopped coming to school. Through our friendship and our similar experiences with pain and illness, I was able to help him get through a really dark time in his life and helped us both figure out what we want to do with our lives. I talked to him about studying Biomed in college to be able to make prosthetics, because he knows the struggle of what it’s like to have to use a wheelchair. He is now planning on going to the University of Washington to go into their Biomed program. Through helping my friend, I found that I enjoy helping and talking with others that experience the chronic pain and illness like I do. I’ve decided that I want to go to college to get a degree in Psychology and Neuroscience so I can become a Pain …show more content…
I have yet to decide whether I want to go into science or medicine. I may also go into my college’s music program so that I can pursue music further. If I stay in Vancouver, I will stay at my house or rent a nearby apartment. If I go out of state for college I will likely stay in a dorm or a studio apartment. Also, if I attend the college that my older sister attends, I would be able to room with her. To pay for where I live, I would get a job or become an RA.
