Personal Narrative Essay: Weston Street

After all the struggling, the bad times, today it might finally be over. Yesterday I was scavenging around Weston Street today to find any supplies worth taking. Weston Street is the most dangerous location of New Junction City if that’s even possible. It’s dominated by various gangs and groups who only looked out for themselves. I had heard what keeps them in power was this thing called “Magic”. I had to be fast my whole life in order to live. I haven’t had anyone to help me since I was a baby, before all the bad times. But making supply runs on Weston forced me to be faster than fast. I had to just try to survive. I was making my way around the city and found a couple of cans of vegetables and some fruit that was. The assailants ranged from people with guns or swords, to people using these strange attacks. I ran out and fought to defend everything I loved but to no avail. I wasn’t fast enough or strong enough to stop the in time and soon the numbers become overwhelming. One by one I was being beaten on and stabbed more and

The thunder of gunfire in the deafening dark woke me from my sleep. I had sat up in my vagabond rags and silently woke my raw-boned brother. We sat up and listened to the pandemonium outside the windowless building. The light from the fire we layed around gave off scant warmth. I held Williams shaking hand and we rolled and went to sleep.…

From the day I moved into 113 Ben Street, till the day I moved out before heading to college, my street never surprised me. At the beginning of my street is where the corner of Fern Street starts and is where the Dominicans started establishing their territory. The more a person strolled or drove down the street, the more people can see how separated everyone was. I was located in the middle which was where most of the diversity was. Ecuadoreans, Guatemalans, Puerto Ricans, Portuguese, and more was the central heart of Ben Street.…

The process to creating this narrative of my belonging took a lot of reflecting reflect about the summer I had two years ago, which helped when I looked back at pictures we took there. Thinking back brought up a myriad of memories that I could fill books with. It also made me think about how I have changed in the past couple of years. My method to this creation was to write it as I was telling the story in my head, as I would reiterate verbally I would write it down, and then go back and add in all the description and detail in. I think I produced the best picture I could have painted for this story.…
