Ohkay Monologue

"Ohkay, you can go home early today Kianna, go and have some fun on your spring break," My boss, Andrew, told me.

"It's only three o'clock though," I told him.

"There's not a lot of costumers today, everyone's out at the beach, not here in an old candy store. You should be there too, you've worked all week long."

"Can't, costumer just walked in. Plus you know I don't have many friends and the beach isn't really my thing. And you also know I really need the money."

"Go, I can handle anyone that comes in here. I did teach you how to do everything didn't I."

"Yes, but I do it better than you do." I told him. "Hi, welcome to Bites of Sweets, what can I get for you today."

The customer looked around and bit his lip as if he couldn't

And the one said you were cute and the other blushed so I don't think they'll have a problem having you around for a while. You need friends. Been round here too long, starting to get as dusty as I am. Why don't you ask them to go to the beach with you."

"No I don't think so, I told you the beach isn't my thing. I don't think I even own a bathing suit. Any more boxes you need moved so you don't break your old brittle hips?"

"Nope, no more boxes. And fine whatever. Just make friends with them. Go be social, I do want to be a grand god father one day," he said and winked.

"You'll have to wait a while Andrew". I replied and turned around to go run up Brad- the costumers drinks up. I need to stop doing that I thought, their costumers, not your friends.

As I opened the door I saw the two brothers laughing and throwing candy at each other. When they saw me Vincent froze and stopped but Braden just threw a green gum ball at me and it went down my shirt.

My jaw dropped as Braden started dying of laughter. So I did the only 'logical' thing I thought of at the moment and took it out of my shirt, and threw it back at him hitting him in-between the eyes. Now it was my turn to start laughing. Even Vincent got a smile on his face.

"N-nice shot," Vincent complemented

As the months passed, the war and all that it brought with it, affected the citizens of France in varying ways, bringing prejudice, suffering and violence along with it. Nancy and Henri helped out wherever they could, helping their friends, their neighbours and even strangers the best that they were able to. Passively resisting and then overtly assisting in confounding and frustrating the Nazi and Vichy authorities at every opportunity. After all, they had been invaded, their Country was no longer theirs alone and they felt the same anger and feelings of helplessness as the rest of France.…

Ipperwash Beach has been my home away from home for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories include getting thrown off the inner tube into waves so big they could swallow me whole, campfires that my grandfather would build rain or shine, just so we could get that perfect bedtime treat and a sun burning so bright I thought the sweet summer would never end. As far as I was concerned, Ipperwash Beach was a magical place that couldn’t do any wrong. From a young age, I can remember the whispers and lingering stares I received when I would mention to a camp counsellor or adult family friend that it was almost time to go to the beach.…

“Within the first 100 years of the Europeans landing in the Americas, nine-tenths of the natives died out because of diseases the Europeans brought with them, such as smallpox and the plague. Corn, chocolate, and hemp were some goods that the Europeans got from the Americas. Most Spanish men were obsessed with three things: Gold, God, and Glory. To obtain these things, they had to go to the Americas. Hernan Cortes, a Spaniard, heard about El Dorado and went to Mexico in 1519 to find it.…

The usual rancid smell of cigarette smoke, alcohol and other things of which I don't want to name, hit my nostrils has soon as I enter the bar. Used the familiar stench, I don't gag or choke like most of the teenagers that, unfortunately, find themselves here. I find my usual seat in the back left corner of the bar, farthest away from public eye. I casually walk there, while taking off my black leather jacket. No matter how hard I try to blend into the crowd, I will still be thrown the accusing looks.…
