I don’t know how I started writing in the first place. I still can’t quite believe I write. To this day, I look back to the past summer with a mix of wonder and disbelief, because venturing into writing has completely changed the trajectory of my life, when I signed up for my first writing workshop. I think luck might have been involved in this decision: truthless, ruthless luck. Somehow the planets were aligned the right way, and the right song was playing in my head, the wind was knocking right against the windowpanes, and I was right enough to click on the first weekly assigned reading and fall over, smack in love with the words of Ocean Vuong, or Terrance Hayes, or Toni Morrison.…

For as long as I can recall, I have been a creator. Before I even received my first essay prompts in school, as a child I already crafted stories to be transcribed by my father, or scribbled down by my own hands, or played out by toy dolls. I never even realized my natural inclination to writing until suddenly, around the third grade or so, my teachers and peers began noticing this peculiar aspect of myself. My essays were read aloud to the class, the teachers instructed me to assist my peers who struggled with grammar, the librarian gave me personal recommendations on which books were a satisfying read - sure enough, my aspiration to be a writer had been diagnosed.…

My entire life, I knew that I was destined to have a career associated with writing; it was my past, present, and future. My ultimate goal is to eliminate bias in the media, but for now I am satisfied as long as I attain a job that includes writing. Throughout my life, I seized several opportunities to turn one hobby into my future. At the age of eight, I mostly cared about about three things: High School Musical, what was for dinner, and journalism.
