“The Worst Witch” Not everyone has a picture perfect childhood, but I am blessed to have a wonderful family who have given me a great childhood. We make memories that will last a lifetime and our tradition on Halloween will be carried on for future generations to come. The tradition of watching ‘The Worst Witch’ has brought my family closer and it makes us realize how lucky we are to have the life we live. Growing up my dad had an abusive alcoholic father, therefore he did not have a picture perfect childhood. His parents had their time split between seven busy children, so twenty-four hours in a family that big was spread as thin as butter on bread. When the temperature got chiller, and the leaves started changing from green to …show more content…
Hay by George has set up his pumpkin patch off highway-14, each year George has the best variety of pumpkins to choose between. The following week is bound to be the best week of the fall, as my parents are busy preparing for their pumpkin seed contest, my sisters and I try to find a new place to hide “The Worst Witch” dvd in hopes that our mom does not find it this …show more content…
While everyone is carving their pumpkins my dad swears that his is going to be the best this year. Half way through we all take a break from carving our pumpkins and sit down by the tv to enjoy our favorite part of the movie. The “worst witch” is flying with the grand wizard, and with the 1980’s movie editing skills the flying looks as realistic as a unicorn seems real. As the movie ends and the pumpkins are finished being carved, my dad turns his pumpkin around. Per normal his ‘best pumpkin yet’ has two triangle eyes, and a smile. This tradition of watching ‘The Worst Witch’ and carving pumpkins every year brings my family closer together and we realize how lucky we really are. Knowing that my dad did not have a memorable childhood really makes me feel blessed that my parents would do anything for me. With school starting in the fall and the sports beginning my family gets really busy and it always seems as if we are on an opposite schedule. Coming together and spending a full day and night with my family, we reflect on how lucky we are to have each

The latest PG-13 “horror” flick recently released in theatres, The Visit by M. Night Shyamalan, opens with a girl, Rebecca, filming her mom as she tells the story of how she ran away from home. A typical cliché’ love story- girl falls in love, her parents are against the relationship and in an act of rebellion she runs away from home and gets married(of course the marriage ends up failing when her husband decides to pursue a younger woman). She goes on to set-up an important plot point as she mentions that on the day she left, something horrible happened between her and her parents causing all communication with them to become non-existent for the last fifteen years. Due to this rift in the relationship between their mom and grandparents, Becca…

With Halloween approaching soon, thoughts of black cats and witches running about, you’d be pleased to sit and read this story in one sitting. I think Ray 's target audience for the story is younger people and adolescents, I didn’t actually feel that way while reading. Ray Bradbury has an extensive collection of stories he has written during his career. I’d definitely pick up another story written by him and enjoy his literary style. His ability to harness me with his mix of nonfictional information and fiction keeps me interested, pinned and wanting to read on.…

To many, the end of October is a time of corn mazes, costume parties, and haunted houses. Many cultures celebrate harvest festivals during October, though none are as well-known as Halloween. Because Halloween is primarily descended from the Celtic festival of Samhain, when some think of Halloween, they think of bats and cats and witches. However, although Halloween as it is currently know is a wholly American creation with regional rituals handed down by generations, it did not become a “full-blown American holiday” until the turn of the century (Bannatyne). Because of the contemporary nature of Halloween, without Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Sylvia Plath’s “Lady Lazarus”, and George A. Romero’s Night Of The Living Dead, the holiday as we…

I started this final with this question because it was playing on my mind at this moment. The Book of Tea, was something I needed. There are many things going on in my life that I have kept quiet about. My son’s complications from surgery, my daughter’s complete mental breakdown, my husband’s heart attack, and my severe flu, which I had to ignore to care for others, all occurred within a month and a half’s time. I have found no joy in study, which normally makes me shake with excitement.…

The author doesn’t comprehend why there are parents who allow their children to participate in these kinds of events. The author then proceeds to assert that she doesn’t “get Halloween, ..the celebration, ..the pumpkins” and overall the “creepy ghostly” features on houses. The adoption of repetition is to prompt the idea to the audience that the whole celebration is chaotic to her and shows the reason why she has written this article. Moreover, the comment attached was written by another parent, Ellie, conveys an opposite point of views from Warren’s. Ellie informs in a relaxed tone that she views Halloween as a “street party” as the other parents are able to “chat, ..meet now neighbours” and the “kids (are able to) get some excitement” during this event.…

Pick a simple and bold pattern, for a Halloween night, the usual design is spooky, scary, or goofy. Then carve the pumpkin to liking, and handle the sharp tools with care. After completing this carving, one should have a masterpiece that they themselves have successfully completed. One will then place a candle at the base of the inside of the hollowed out pumpkin.…

This sickness I thought was to embarrassing to talk about, making it impossible to seek help, left me feeling alone in the dark. This sickness ruined friendships, without me realizing it. This sickness that made getting out of bed a struggle for me. This sickness made it impossible for me to see a positive future, until the day I stopped calling myself “crazy” and began to grow from what we all call, depression.…
