The Worst Day Ever
It was a long day at school… my first C… my boyfriend is mad at me… and I dropped my phone in the toilet… way to go… worst day ever.
The bell rang for fifth period to end, and the first thing I did was turn on my phone to see what the damage was. Ugh, lines, everywhere. What had I done to deserve this? Was it because I didn’t study hard enough? I don’t understand... why me?
Mom wasn’t supposed to be home until 8:00 tonight. She had to work overtime. Dad died when I was 11 in a car accident. I’m now 16 and an only child and have no “friends” to “hang out” with. So, I sat on the couch to catch up on The Walking Dead, to try and get my mind off of how things had gone down today. But to no avail.
As I was walking up the staircase to my room, I caught a glimpse of my old bow, the one that I used to shoot with dad before he died, and thought to myself “just one last time.” I quickly snatched it up out of the corner, along with 5 arrows, ran down the stairs, and out the front door. I walked to the old ragged bale of hay covered with a rotten piece of paper that dad and I called a “target” and let out a sigh. Oh how I missed those days.
I reluctantly walked to the target to move the weeds out of the way

As I lifted my leg over the old wooden gate, I heard something move… assuming it was just a rabbit or animal of some kind, I hopped over the fence paying no mind to it. I bent down to pluck my arrow from the hillside, it was a bit stubborn, but I got it out. When I stood back up, and turned around, I seen it again, that person, they looked familiar, but why were they here? Why couldn’t they just come up and say “hi”? I stared harder, trying to decipher who it could be. I blinked, but when I opened my eyes, they were no longer there. They vanished out of thin air. What? I shook my head, convincing myself that it wasn’t happening. But I couldn’t fight the

At boot camp we had one week called Hell Week, where there’s 3 tiers of challenges. In Hell Week we slept for 2 hours in one week. I was pushed harder than any other camp or challenge I’ve ever done. To get breakfast we had to run 1 mile with a 180-pound boat on our heads. We had to swim in water less than 40 degrees Fahrenheit when we have been awake for 72 hours.…

In retrospect, what may have drawn the creature’s attention, was in the way I walked. Familiar to every eight-year-old prepubescent, was the act of not bothering to lift your leg one after the other. An often reprimanded undertaking, that created a great deal of sound, when hard plastic greeted with worn and cracked concreate. The sky had greyed, and it had an annoying indecisive attitude as to whether it wanted to rain or not. It was halfway down a “shortcut,” an alley that separated the pharmacy, and another shop I would have engrained into memory, if I knew I would never be able to recount it.…

It was a pleasant day in the bucolic. The sun was shining and a cool breeze was coming from across the pond. I was standing in the grass next to it smiling as I watched the ducks play about in the water. Nobody was around except for the ducks or so I thought. I lived in a little bungalow next to the woods where the scenery was always fetching.…

Imagine this, you’re just a young three year old boy, and you stand staring out the window, hours on end. You continue to wait and eventually nighttime falls. Finally, you start drifting off, oh how closing your eyes feels so wonderful at this time, even though you feel shame and heartbreak. Just then you see headlights take a left and pull into your graveled driveway. The wait is over, hours of staring out the window have ended and a man opens the door gets out one leg at a time, and starts heading to the door.…

Elia hated the idea of concealing her identity from her own people. They needed a leader, not a coward trying her best to get back behind the safety of some walls. The very thought angered her. However, she knew Hal spoke true, even if they weren't words she wanted to hear. She nodded her head in agreement slowly, having taken a moment to ignore her initial feelings.…

Tuesdays are the best discount days at thrift stores. My mother sometimes took my sisters and I window shopping. Peeking into seemingly ancient items reminded me of biblical stories; bowls with lions and calves adumbrated Isaiah’s prophecy of peace. Noticeable differences of others can be fun way to start conversations, sharing stories and creating friendships. Elongated vowels and straight to the point messages ensued laughter between former strangers.…

Actually, before we move on, let’s go back to where the story began. It was just another typical, sunny, fresh summer day in a suburban neighborhood where the peaceful scenery, the houses, the trees, and the small roads looked like those in a fairy tale movie. “Good morning dear. How was your sleep?” said a man in a black bussiness suit. “Morning Dad.”…
