Marching down his self-funded lab, the freshly appointed Chief of Defence Staff for the United Kingdom, Dewhurst felt a sense of home, unlike any other facility he graced. His chunky boots echoed, making him feel superior to the Doctors he’d hired to carry out his research that always tiptoed in his company.
My minions…and mine only….
Dr. Courtney and Dr. Benbow had been loyal employees of his for decades, but he hadn’t visited to chit-chat. He’d arrived to inspect the project they were striving so hard on.

She was one of the girliest girls I knew since grade school, with her stylish culottes and pink garments of all different shades for all different occasions. She was the epitome of a mixture between pure innocence and quirk that boldly took her rightful place in the middle of my heart. Mary Anne wasn’t just all of that; she was also my affectionate girlfriend, my warm-hearted best friend who I could talk about anything with, from the most trivial things to the very meaning of our whole existence. At the time, all I could feel was the absolute joy that I got from spending my time with her. We had our entire happiness in the future planned out, a dream wedding and all, but maybe that was the reason why I wouldn’t have ever imagined that I would be feeling so lost and empty just a few years later, alone and missing a part of myself.…

As I descended upon the field of Somme, a chill trembled down my spine. The trembling nerves and hairs standing up on pale goose-flesh were not from fear of the bullets whistling past my head nor of the walls of gas rolling across the trenches in deadly silence, after all what need Death fear of such mortal things? No, it was my sixth sense, a trait shared among all reapers, that my target was near by. Settling upon the ground and observing the bleak landscape of no man’s land, I could see a multitude of other Reapers going about their work like silent shades amongst the dead and dying in the trenches. Scenes painted by wars such as this one made busy work days for the likes of we haunted few, perhaps I knew some of those flitting apparitions,…
