Personal Narrative Essay: The USS John F. K.

Decent Essays
I was a young sailor then in the USS John F. Kennedy, brushing my teeth in the head when my supervisor SK1 Barr barged in. He was holding a toothbrush, which he proceeded to use to scrub underneath the rim of a toilet.
“What are you doing?” I asked.
“Hazing the new guy,” he said with a grin.
“You do know that he could get ill from the bacteria on the toilet right?”
His reply was quick and to the point: “You didn’t?

Everybody has done something about which they are proud, whether it be winning a competition, sacrificing their time to helps others, or achieving a personal goal. Looking back on my life, there are several accomplishments of which I am quite proud. I I have completed The United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC) Bootcamp. It is a U.S. Navy-based organization that serves to teach individuals about the sea going military services, U.S. naval operations and training, community service, citizenship, and an understanding of discipline and teamwork. Each Cadet must attend NSCC recruit training, which serves to introduce each "recruit" to the standards and routine involved in the life of a Sea Cadet.…

Shaking The Captain’s Hand It was the middle of June, and I had just taken my CDA (Child Development Associates) exam. This exam was so important to me because it meant moving up to a higher position on my job as childcare professional. I had to work the next day, so I did not have time to even think about the test results. I was called to the office to speak with my childcare trainer. I thought she had observed me doing something wrong in the classroom, because that is usually the case when you are called to the training office.…

My body hurt, I could barely move, and my legs would not stop cramping. “Push on," I yelled as we continued our ascent up the mountain dubbed the Reaper. That hike was the last thing that stood in my way of earning the coveted Eagle, Globe, and Anchor. I would become a Marine. I would not know it until after the evolution, but we hiked over 50 miles and trained for 54 hours all with little food and sleep.…

Almost four years ago, I entered Clackamas High School as a confused, shy, awkward freshman. Soon after entering the hallways of this school, I was assigned to a Freshman Assurance group and met with the group leaders. My group leaders were vivacious seniors, who were condescending and gave very little advice on high school. I felt a little intimidated by them, and the activities that they led made most of the freshmen in our group uncomfortable. They told us about their craziest stories and about the teachers who weren't of the most pleasant experience.…

From growing up in a military family, I have become very resilient and I adapt really well to change. With my surroundings changing all the time, I have to be able to quickly adapt to my new setting and find ways to fit in as quickly as possible. I have been to about twelve different schools so far, and I have lived in about eight different houses. When I live on a military base, change is constant, even if it is not my own family experiencing the orders to move that year. The houses around me fill and empty all the time with new people, and some of the military dominant schools I have been to have the same problem.…

In my understanding, that was my command to do. Give selfish treatment to one man but give all credible treatment to the other, who in all shed the same blood fighting. I became deeply distraught by this segregated treatment because of some set value one man has to have just by the color of his skin. In disgust, I still had to do what was meant for me to do. I would work on the black soldiers and a woman named Clara Barton would work on the white soldiers. I grew interest into wanting to know how she felt about this unfair situation, however it was prohibited to step near her or inside the white soldier’s tent.…

It all started November 22 in my home city of Dallas. That day I woke up early to watch a news report for the new presidential campaign John F. Kennedy was talking about starting. November 20th 1990, was the day I started my life at Oak Ridge. The justice system deemed me and my friend Prash to be criminally insane and had sent me to this prison for criminals who are deemed mentally unstable. I took a life of another because my friend Prash told me that person was a terrorist who conspire to harm me. This “Criminal Insane Building” sounds like a frightening place, my lawyer told me it is the only maximum-security health care centre in Ontario and that they would take excellent care of me and my friend. When I entered at Oak Ridge, I saw that this prison only held male prisoners.…
