Personal Narrative Essay: The Toxic Shot

It’s only been a few month since the United States elected our new President John
Anderson, but little did we know he would soon be ruining innocent lives. Today is the day me and my best friend Katie found out about “The Toxic Shot” and that it would be used to kill every woman in the United States. At first we looked at each other and thought this was some type of sick joke but then we kept paying attention to the TV and found out how and why the government would do such a thing. Suddenly the president's face showed up on the screen and he started talking, “Hello ladies and gentleman of the US I have an announcement to make, I think that women are unnecessary and needy, This is why I have decided to get rid of them once and for all, if

If all of you will do this I will too.” All of the crowd started hooraying and clapping for me, I was so happy! “Okay so this sounds like a plan, we will all split up into groups and meet by the sewage systems at different time throughout the night so we can all leave at different times and eventually all meet up in America. I recommend that you all make posters and pack food for this journey.” Leighann said. People started grouping themselves into groups and then we all decided on times and this plan was going to work! Katie and I went into a group that was going to leave around 3 in the morning so we needed to go pack everything and prepare to go.
At 2:45 the next morning we met by the sewer by our group and we all headed out on our journey to America. We trudged through it for hours on end and there was lots of complaining but we all knew we were doing the right thing. Once we finally made it we were the last group to arrive. All of the other groups were gathered around the streets of NYC chanting and waving posters all around. “This is amazing, I can’t believe we did it.” I thought to myself. Thousands of people sure made a commotion to all of the other people. Most people joined in with us and it made an even bigger

Of all the fondest memories I’ve acquired in my lifetime, one particular memory that proves itself to be especially notable was the very first time my delicate three-year old foot touched American soil. I recall clutching my mother’s warm, rugged hands between the gaps of my fingers, sensing her fearful excitement to be amongst the buildings that touched the sky and the air that is filled with the aroma of opportunity. We dreamt of many things, but never beyond our wildest ambitions, did we ever dream that I would be in a position to potentially guide other individuals trying to navigate this place we all call home. One of my biggest childhood dreams came into fruition a short while ago when I was admitted into Vanderbilt University.…

It was Thursday night and I was cold. I was walking down a dark alleyway following one of my friends to meet up with some our other friends and this was her shortcut. I constantly kept feeling the urge to turn away and run, but she held my hand so tightly I could not let go. Even though I did not mind, I was still shivering so much from the cold and cringing of the thought of getting caught. “Lee, I really don’t think that we should do this.”…

Part of the time I am stuck between calmly understanding the reality of what I am doing or understanding the reality of what I am doing and panicking. When I was 16, I went on a mission trip to India. It was my first trip outside of the United States. I was part of a student team that led evangelistic meetings every night in the rural villages for three weeks. The students traveled singularly with translators to various sites during the evening, and at the end the three weeks baptisms were offered.…

At a younger age, I would say I believed that I can only trust myself and my mother, this is because as a little kid my mom would always tell me that there are bad people in the world and that giving them any information about anything can be very harmful. But as I grew up and realized what was actually happening in my country I knew there were millions of others that were suffering against the “bad people” and we could only do something about it if the whole community came together to help. It was at that time when I was about 25, when I started to put some effort into trying to establish more just conditions within my country especially after the implication of extremely high food prices. This is when I started my first strike involving my…

The next moment I realized that the toxic environment was present was the very next day. I overslept and was late to the March to Convocation, but I made it and was at the very end of the parade. I took responsibility for it, but I was told that the entire staff, except Nino, had to go do push-ups at the Clements Center. I was very uncomfortable with this punishment. I am very sensitive about my weight and get really bad anxiety when people watch me attempt to work out.…

That's when I know it's time to get up. As a result, there is no need to set my alarm for 7:15 anymore - the yelling and chaos outside my door that is more reminiscent of a war zone than a family home is enough to break my deep sleep cycle. While I gather my football clothes from the laundry room and climb into the shower adjacent to my room, I listen in to the everlasting struggle of my step-father trying to corral my three brothers and get them ready for school. Even the most mundane, seemingly simple tasks are daily battles. Will the great Knight Joseph tame the three mighty monsters today?…

Whooped!!! In the hot, scorching summer of 2009, probably somewhere towards the end of May, I was nine years old and just finishing my 4th grade year. I was headed to Rockford, Illinois, which is about an hour and a half away from Chicago to stay with my Aunt Cookie and Uncle Curtis for the summer to work with my cousins, Myles and Malcolm, at my uncle’s business, H.C. Anderson Roofing. My cousins and I were supposed to do all the maintenance work at the shop.…

The Smoking Gun Ever since I was a young child, cricket was my passion and something I enjoyed experiencing every single day. Whether we were watching the game or playing it, cricket consumed my life and I began to play the sport every single day. At the center of my experience was my grandfather, who was active, fun, and always willing to play with his grandchildren. However, like the rest of us, he was human, and part of being human is that everything must come to an end. I still remember those beautiful summer days playing in my old house, running around the long, wide hallways without a care in the world.…

“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” is a commonly used quote. I can honestly say I didn’t hear it from an upbeat pop song at first. But from someone more important in life, my father. When I was younger I thought the tiny scars and disgusting bruises was something hard to overcome. What I “overcame” was nothing compared to what would happen in January of 2008.…
