Personal Narrative Essay: The Story Of Earthquake In Danghara

Improved Essays
The sun began to rise on a beautiful Saturday morning in my hometown of Danghara, Tajikistan. It was a day off from school, but I woke up early, before everyone else in my family. I took a seat at our kitchen table and got a few balls of qurut, or curdled, salted yogurt balls, my favorite breakfast meal. As I sank my teeth into the meal, I watched the sun rise slowly over the horizon. It indeed was a beautiful day. My family is lucky enough to live in a medium-sized, two-story house just outside of downtown Danghara, a small city of 24,000. I loved the view of our town, which was undergoing a lot of construction. The rumor was that the government was going to relocate to our city, but I didn’t care about that. I just …show more content…
“That’s not me,” he replied. Then we finally realized what was going on. “Earthquake!” we both exclaimed. We had some earthquakes in Danghara, but never one like this. We raced outside just before our front porch crumbled with part of the second floor. Farrukh was hit into me, and we went crumpling to the ground as little pieces of our house rained down around us. When I tried to move, I could only move my right arm and both of my legs. “Akbar!” I heard Farrukh yell from beside me. I tried to respond, but I could not make my voice audible. I then realized that most of my upper body was trapped by rubble. I decided to try to pick off some of the smaller rocks. Quickly, I was able to uncover the loose concrete around my face. Miraculously, although I was a little scratched up, I did not experience any injury to my eyes, nose, or

“You boys are brave. But I will get up there as soon as we are done here.” Two other men carried a man who was bleeding badly out of his house, which was badly damaged. “You know, I think I will have to call another ambulance to take your mom and dad to the hospital. They will be up soon.” Just then, I heard Farrukh yelling for me that Mom and Dad were starting to wake up. I thanked the ambulance man and ran back up the street to see Farrukh, Mom, and Dad. When I made it up the hill, I almost cried tears of joy as I saw Mom and Dad staggering around drowsily. Even though they didn’t look very good, they were still alive. Farrukh and I sprinted to them and gave them a big hug. “I was worried about you,” Farrukh sniffed. “Oh, it’s okay now,” Mom comforted him. “We’ll be fine.” “I am so proud of you boys,” Dad told us. “You have been so brave.” “Yes,” Mom agreed. “You have been so brave.”

Have you ever been pushed to the point where you felt like you couldn’t go any further, like your body and mind would fall apart if pushed harder? In gymnastics, you are pushed to your mental and physical breaking point. When it comes time to compete, you have to make sure you know your routine and how to make it win the perfect 10. I, as a newly-budding 5th grader, knew this decently well, and my first gymnastics meet was definitely one for the memories. Flipped Out Gymnastics, located in Howell, was where I trained and competed as a level 5 gymnast.…

BELIEVE IT OR NOT, we're all accustomed to a certain standard, or stereotype that needs to be played. Whether it's being captain of the cheerleading team or the smartest kid in your class, it's one way or another that's there's going to be someone who's supposed to follow by these stereotypes or standards just for the sole fact that that's them. Unfortunately for me, it couldn't get any worse, since being an African American female who unfortunately does not fit your typical, "angry black woman." Yes, that "angry black woman", bitter, closed-off, unarticulated, with serious father issues.…

My most valuable possession was my house. It wasn’t anything fancy or exquisite, but it was there that I had spent the precious moments, however few, with my beloved dad. I remember that we would spend hours playing, running around the arched, brightly lit corridors. On either side, I recall the large mahogany doors which would fluidly open to reveal ancient, chestnut-brown rooms with antique, twin bed frames which were confined within. I will never forget the uncanny gargoyles that were suspended onto the wall behind, the very same monsters who would assault my sleep and curse me with countless numbers of sleepless nights.…
