The Putt that Broke All Spirits
Beep! Beep! Beep! The sound of my thundering alarm clock blared through my room on an early Thursday morning. I opened my right eye slowly, then yawned, then made a quick sweep around my room; my heart suddenly started racing, adrenaline and energy burst through my body as I shot myself out of bed! I suddenly realized that today was the day of the opening round of the State Golf Tournament! Now, standing in my room, I realized the importance of the day; I rushed to get ready, I took a quick shower, brushed my teeth, and then threw on my golf cloths that I had laid out the night before. I quickly gave my mother a goodbye hug, bolted to my truck, and headed off to meet the rest of the team. Everyone was excited about the tournament and all of us couldn’t shut up about the tournament. Braxton and I sat in the back of the big yellow school bus and talked about how great we were going to play the next two days. Although, I did not yet know how overwhelmingly devastating the next two

It was a beautiful course! We stepped out of the bus and on to what looked like a small piece of heaven. The beauty of the course that lied in front of me took my breath way; I was so amazed that I didn’t even feel alive, I felt like I was outside of my own body. The first place all of us headed to was the driving range. The driving range was unbelievably long! It was so long it looked like it stretched a mile! Flanking the driving range was a large group of wildly grown up oak, and pine trees. Directly behind the driving range, over the concrete cart path about twenty steps; was a putting green which had what seemed like one thousand practice holes on it. The green was so big, you couldn’t putt a golf ball from one end to the other, even using all of your strength. I took a few moments, after some warm up putts, to just be one with the place that I was

Like most golfers, Scotty Cameron, a curious Californian kid, was born into golf. His father, an avid golfer, breathed the game. During adolescence, Scotty began making strides in his newfound talent, producing handmade golf putters, alongside his father, "in their garage workshop. Before starting my senior year of high school, I had the opportunity to attend the BB&T Atlanta Open. Watching the players up close and meeting them sent a wave of thrill throughout my body, and I felt an adrenaline rush during each point. Since I made lots of significant memories and enjoyed each moment, I was able to attend the same tournament the year before I started college. While each experience had a similar feel, there were some contrasting qualities, such as who participated in the tournament and where my family and I selected to eat. Since I had attended the BB&T Atlanta the year before, making a list of what to pack was much easier.…

Throughout my time at university, I have had the opportunity to be a member and captain of the Skidmore Women’s Tennis Team. My time spent on the team has been a rewarding and inimitable experience, allowing me to become a leader and mentor to my teammates as well as throughout the college. To explain more comprehensively my own personal characteristics that make me an excellent candidate for Queen’s Law, I wanted to give you a glimpse into a moment that I think exemplifies the qualities that you are looking for in a law student. Every muscle in my body ached as I bounced the ball at the baseline, a slow and deliberate bounce 1….…

“Yes Sir!” the announcer proclaimed as “Jack Nicklaus [threatened] to make the 46th year of his life the most memorable to date - a year when this once young, strong, heroic golfer [made] middle age a time of even bigger heroics.” (The New York Times, May 24, 1986) Jack Nicklaus had just sunk a putt in the 1986 masters for eagle on the fifteenth hole, positioning only two back of the lead. It would be one of the greatest wins in golf’s history if he could pull it out, but there were only three holes left.…

The Case for Trump Victor Davis Hanson writes about Donald Trump being the best candidate and all republicans should vote for him in the presidential election. He states that even though Trump might “shake up U.S. foreign policy,” we need free-trade and someone who will make changes that the US needs. Hanson argues that this election is not about “four more years of liberalism and a return of conservatism; it’s an effort to halt the fundamental transformation of the country.” Smaller Countries, Far Away Jay Nordlinger writes about NATO, a treaty of 28 countries protecting each other from various attacks.…

When people think of golf the first name that pops into people’s mind is Tiger Woods. Tiger has seventy-nine professional golf tournament wins and fourteen majors. Even though Tiger still hasn’t passed Jack Nicklaus’ eighteen major championship people still believe that Tiger Woods is the greatest golfer who ever lived. Tiger’s career hasn’t been all positive, though; the 2008 United States Open being the last major tournament he has won. Because of this slump, Matt Cochran advocated that Tiger Woods would never win a tournament again in his article Why Tiger Will Never Win a Tournament again.…

People are born with passion within them but also with a journey ahead of them to find what or where it is intended. Finding that passion comes in the brief or extensive discovery of something that resonates with themselves and their hearts. Passion is built from a simple introduction that quickly grows into more. For Darian Zachek, her passion for golf sparked from her father's attempt at an effort for bonding. At the age of seven years old, Zachek's father would take her out to the driving range as a way of bonding with his daughter, and it was from there that she continued to pursue the game.…

When I was younger, I based my goals on the expectations of others. I live day to day, going through the works: wake up at the ungodly hour of six A.M., make it through my classes, two hours of volleyball, finally go home, repeat. But, in between all of the rushing, the yelling, the stress of high school, is when I get to relax. It’s when I get to forget about school, or as I call it “college auditions” and when I can just have a nice time without having to weigh the pros and cons of every thing I do. Every day, after the last bell rings, I navigate through the throngs of intimidating upperclassmen. It’s like The Hunger Games, stay calm, keep your head down, and try not to piss anyone off.…

Gordon B. Hinckley had once said something along the lines of hard work paying off, if effort is enforced into the work. Over the years I’ve had in high school I have really absorbed the aspect of this, being able to work up and achieve opportunities for the preparation in the outside world. Seventh and eighth grade having to understand the concepts in the athletic sport tennis was hard for me to comprehend. Actually being able to have proper etiquette of holding a tennis racquet was key, but being able to hit a tennis ball was a ‘whole other ball game.’ All two years of playing tennis in middle school I can not remember a single time me nor my tennis partner won a match.…

It was a brisk fall evening with the sun just about to set behind a hill. I was 10 years old, playing in my third season of football, and my first ever game under the bright lights surrounding the high school stadium. The time had finally come, the lights had been on and warming up for several minutes, I was going to play a game under the lights on the high school field. My experiences that night were not forgotten, but today I couldn’t even tell you if we won the game that night. The lessons I learned that night weren’t about winning and losing, I had done plenty of that already in my life.…

Where can lush fairways, meticulously carved acres of beautiful pine, and oak trees be seen? A golf course presents an opportunity to see the beauty of nature, in a calming, and enlightened environment, while giving a competitor of any age or skill level a challenging, but exciting experience. Golf is perhaps the most intriguing, deep-seated game due to its beautiful golf courses, intense preparation, and clear mindset.
