Personal Narrative Essay: The Origins Of Fire

Great Essays
Once the oil was poured in, flames and sparks danced in the night sky, like a vortex of fire. I could hear wind whistling, the leaves rustling, flames flickering everywhere, and then, to myself, quietly humming a bittersweet rhythm. I’d always asked myself this question, if I was one of the elements of air, ground, fire, or water, which one will suit me the most. Everyone would tell me that my personality was like fire, burning and hot-headed, and I had to say, I agree. I’m not afraid of fire. I could sit right next to fire, if I felt like it... That’s what I did in Mt. Madonna’s camping site. This time, I did it when my dad was pouring in leftover oil. One whole gallon of oil for the fire to feed on. Right at that moment, everything went wrong. …show more content…
Fire! Get water!” screamed a voice. I couldn’t tell who was yelling, but all I could see was a battle between my dad and the fire. A battle between who could get the half a gallon of oil was still in the container. The Flame Demon wanted it all, but my dad covered the container of oil with his hands. Can my dad withstand the fire’s burn? Will the fire burn out with reinforcement from our side? The Flame Demon didn’t back down. He covered my dad’s hand like a blanket and started roasting it. My dad’s face turned red, but he kept his hands on the container. The weight of the container started to feel heavier than it was usual, because my dad lift it down, His hands looking more red instead of the pale skin he actually has. He needed water and fast. Where can I get water? I scanned around the campsite. That’s when I notice something else. Everyone else were either getting water or panicking, and while that was happening, other little sparks of fire were catching leaves and bushes on fire. Think Leyna, I told myself, close my eyes, and tried to remember where I could get water. Suddenly, an idea hit me and I ran to my car. I clumsy tried to opened the trunk of the car in a rush. It was locked. Where were the car keys? I couldn’t wait to get water. The water faucet took too long to run over there even if I did it, and the water would take too long to spew out. I tried to opened the car door, but it was locked. The windows were open though. Maybe I can climb in? I took a running start and jumped into the car. I scrambled into the back and took some water guns that we used for river rafting. I shook it a little and heard water shaking around. Good, I thought and crawl back out of the car. There was still leftover water from the water guns. I sprint back to the campfire but the obstacle between the Flame Demon was worse than before. His minions were setting the forest on fire. The forest was shaking like it was in pain, and my dad’s hand was dark brown from the

A World Lit Only by Fire: The Medieval Mind and the Renaissance Portrait of An Age, was written in 1993 by William Manchester (1922-2004) who was an American author, historian, and biographer. He wrote over a dozen books and was given the National Humanities Medal, and the Abraham Lincoln Literary Award. Manchester’s work, A World Lit by Fire discusses the era known as the Dark Ages with its Medieval mindset throughout Europe, the development of the Renaissance, and the rise of humanism. Manchester argues that the mindset of Medieval Europe was a simple one where the notion of “Self-identity” did not exist, and where life was centrally controlled by the Roman Catholic Church. Over the course of the film, the audience hears police officers, chiefs, and commissioners discuss the relationship between the Philadelphia Police Department and MOVE members as well as the events and conflicts that transpired between the two groups. During the police testimonies, three contradictions arise in the police’s framing and use of violence. The policemen’s perceptions of MOVE members as enemy combatants allowed the contradictions in the minds of the police and in their rhetoric to exist and allowed the police to wield and use the weapons that produced the catastrophic damage to Osage Avenue on May 13th, 1985.…

(Wright 41), “I looked at my mother, the strange woman, at my father, then into the fire.” (Wright 42). When Wright reflects on his father he remembers fire as apart of the environment. Whether the fire was actually there is debatable but it is clear that at this turning point in his life, the fire’s symbolism was present and continues to be a presence through his struggles later and demonstrated when Wright talks about seeing his father later in life and says “Many time in the years after that the image of my father and the strange woman, their faces lit by the dancing flames...” (Wright 42), which is also noticed in Richard Wright New Readings in the 21st Century when they state “...he is haunted for many years afterward by the hellish imagine of “my father and the strange woman, their faces lit by the dancing flames.”” and they describe that fire is “...linked with Wright’s fears that he lives in a hellish world that…

Fire Analysis Nature is often seen as a beautiful aspect of life whereas fire on the other hand is identified as harsh and destructive, however the line separating the two is miniscule. People on occasion question the actions of those who prefer to live far from the city where a fire is inescapable. The response however is always the same; living among nature is more peaceful and calming than living in a crowded area. As fire brings destruction and havoc, it will also bring new life, opportunity, and peacefulness as well.…
