In preparation for the day my best friend, Maddie, and I had planned for weeks, I dyed Maddie’s hair neon pink and bought a shirt that had ‘feminist’ written on the front. My mother did not know the full extent of our plans since we only told her that it was another one of our usual sleepovers. If my mother had known, I would not have been able to go to the event that changed my perspective forever.
The night of the carnival, I had the best time with my friends rambling from one ride to another. One ride seemed to catch everyone’s attention since it was the tallest there, turned the rider 180 degrees, and had a reputation of people throwing up on it. That kind of action is what they wanted to happen even when its just a couple people. If the rally happened and no protestors showed up, there wouldn’t have been the same media coverage that there was with the protestors. The protestors arguments are effective because they wanted to prevent this hate group from having a rally, and avoid any violence from happening. They also are in the media addressing that there is still a racism problem in America, even after the extensive history in America with prejudice against other races. The reporter for VICE, Elle Reeve, does a fantastic job of keep her composure when discussing the opinions that people had in the interviews.…

This was the roller coaster that had several corkscrews and upside down turns as the seats were hanging from the track as opposed to the regular cars on top of the track. For some reason, the concept of hanging in your seat, no matter how safe it supposedly was, scared me out of my mind. Still, I was not going to be a wimp and stay behind while my friends went on one of the two big park highlights without me, or so I thought. When we had waited for what felt like forever, we made it to the front of the line and prepared ourselves to board the coaster. For some reason, I had psyched myself up so much that by that point in time there was no way I was going to get on that ride unless someone forced me.…

Moving forward, I joined Dr. James Cheverud's lab in the Department of Biology at Loyola University Chicago. I conducted research on diabetes and obesity to address an overwhelming public health concern. My research investigation has taught me how to make hypotheses, design experiments, gather evidence, and read scientific literature - thinking methodically just as a scientist does. These skills will prove useful in modern medicine, as science and medicine are in an everlasting state of flux. Witnessing the shortcomings of medicine in the absence of advanced medical technology in Korangi Town and Nicaragua exemplified the necessity of saying up to date with biomedical revelations.…

I had never had so much fun with obnoxiously loud carnival music blasting in my ears, small children stupidly goofing off in front of me, and the smell of food that was so greasy it made my stomach turn.
