Personal Narrative: My Highly Influenced My Life

Improved Essays
“I live my life a quarter mile at a time, nothing else matters. Not the mortgage, not the store, not the team and their problems. For those ten seconds or less...I’m free.” This quote was expressed by Vin Diesel in the Fast and Furious movie series and idolized by many as a life motto. The straight stretch of open pavement after an elongated curve of yellow and white lines is what I breathe for. Sensing the freshly paved blacktop beneath each one of the hot to the touch, tread worn tires caused by overexertion along with smiling faces and racing hearts. In this moment, I am floating. I watch as the two parallel, yellow lines race me down the road from the driver side, the white lines only being there to keep me in check if I ever decide to …show more content…
My life revolves around automobiles and works like that of a well machined engine. My routine is the same and I can’t endure everyday life without the support of others around me. The life I live was influenced at an early age. By the time I was five, I was already outside man handling a wire wheel attached to the end of a drill working towards utter perfection and nothing less along side my idol. Watching as my tiny fingers squeezed the trigger of the drill in order for the hundreds of precisely trimmed wires to spin clockwise like it were the blades of a helicopter preparing for takeoff. From then on, my love and enthusiasm for cars only progressed further. By the age of thirteen I was given the opportunity to choose my first vehicle. My grandpa, with a little pocket cash, approached me on a Saturday morning and offered me a deal I could not refuse. He took me on a joy ride and traded the cash within his pocket for a early model SN95 Mustang GT. The lines of the car were astonishing. The way the red beams gleam through the horizontal lines of the tail light trim bezels give off the most menacing look that practically dares anyone to approach anywhere near its vicinity. The bullet style, classic torq thrust rims are there merely for intimidation. The turn of the key causes the engine to growl to life and …show more content…
It is my escape from all that holds me down, from reality itself. The sound of the exhaust rumbles its way into my head and allows for better, more elevated thoughts to protrude my mind. When I sit in the driver seat, I feel as if I’m in control. The inside of my car is a space control center, and it’s as if I’m the captain manning the ship. I take over, feeling the wrapped leather of the steering wheel gripped between one of my hands, the other tight on the shifter. I can feel myself lose control, yet gain it all at once as I am one with the car. Sitting snug in the driver seat, premium leather beneath me, my seatbelt holding me back as if it were a friend trying to keep me out of an undesirable situation, I’m ready for takeoff. I can feel as I slide the shifter into drive and the gears take their natural place. I can smell as the exhaust fumes change scents as the car is ready to go. Each seventeen inch wheel makes its own tiny revolution as the sun glistens off the thousands of metallic flake inside the crimson red paint. The headlights and grill snarling as I make my way onto the road. Like reflectors on a bicycle, chrome GT emblems shoot light in the opponent's face as if it were part of a scene from the movie Cars. As I’m driving down the road, I can feel the car slicing through the wind only staying on the ground thanks to the lowly elevated spoiler mated with the trunk. Everything that makes the car works as a team, and I’m the leader of that

Being part of the generation who grew up watching Fast and the Furious films has always made me want to drive a car. At that time I knew I still had a while before I could drive, but any chance I got to be in the driver seat I would. My first time I ever got behind the wheel was right after I watch the fast and the furious in 2001. It was during the summer, my mom was washing her car and according to her “I accidently locked myself inside and somehow I managed to turn the car on and started backing up the car.” My mom was so scared she started yelling “put the car on park” “put the car on park” but I had no clue what she meant.…
