I 'm definitely not the only one and, as a matter of fact, film was and still is one of the most widely appreciated entertainment mediums in the world. But why? What is it that causes either my extreme displeasure or immense enjoyment as I watch movies? Why is it that when I watch a bad film, I feel the strong need to criticize and pick it apart, while on the opposite end, I can 't help but praise and overanalyze well made, intellectually stimulating ones? Why don 't I feel the same strong emotions with the books I read, or the television shows I watch, or the video games I play, or the music I listen to? I 'm not quite sure myself, but part of my point in writing this paper is to figure that out. We occasionally used to go out and rent movies from our local Blockbuster store, and a lot of those experiences shaped my fascination with movies currently. Sometimes he 'd go out on his own and bring a new tape home as a surprise; this time it had been Jurassic Park. It was a great movie - not one of my personal favorites, but great nonetheless - yet, like any other unreasonable five year old, I was terrified of the dinosaurs. Oddly enough, I was already fascinated with dinosaurs by this point - I had picture books full of them. But lo and behold, the moment you make the dinosaurs move on a screen, they become frightening monsters. I didn 't know at the time why the movie was so effective in scaring me, but I surely felt the effects of it afterward. I jumped nearly every time I saw a ripple in my cup of water, for a month or
