Personal Narrative Essay: The Joy Of Figure Skating

Why!? Why I didn't start ice skating since when I was younger? I knew that I was into this sport and interested in spins and jumps. The moment that I experienced a love at first sight happened when I was in kindergarten. Before kindergarten, I wasn't really into any sports. In contrast, one day, I was watching the Olympics on TV with my family. I was watching women's figure skating session and all of the women athletes were practicing on ice. After the practice, face of every athlete changed into a serious face. Figure skating athletes took on the ice and performed artistic and beautiful solos. It felt like athletes were jumping like an angel and spinning like a ballerina. During that time, I felt the sense that figure skating athletes were feeling that time, which is the feeling of nervousness and happiness. Looking at TV made me feel like I was on the ice at the Olympic and skating in front of everyone. That is the moment I felt devoted at first sight. I knew that I will try this sport and become better at it. When I came to America, the first activity that I wanted to try was a figure skating, because it was the first sport that I fell in love with. I begged my mother to let me in the figure skating lesson, the reason is that my grandparents didn't agree with starting ice skate. You …show more content…
What I want to tell you is that if you love something whether it is a sport or any other activity, try it, keep doing it. Because it will make you more interested in that activity, and it will make you better at it. Also, even if people tells you that you are late to try this or you shouldn't try it, don't believe them and prove them wrong, because I was denied to start skating at first, but I kept doing it and I proved them that it doesn't matter when you start, it matters with how much you love that

Life in Black and White Every child dreams of the air, of flying like Superman or like the birds, of getting away from the rules and the crowds and the bustle of the ground. We dream of the freedom and escape that flying may bring. Now, I never learned how to fly, that’s impossible, but there are some things out there that get pretty damn close to that feeling. Where I’m from, almost everyone skated: speed skating, figure skating, ice hockey, they did it all. I grew up watching Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue, and old tapes of Sonja Henie; all of them highly regarded figure skaters.…

The Physics Behind Figure Skating Growing up as a child, I always went to the RDV and saw girls my age participating in figure skating. That is when my fascination began. However, I could not join because I was already committed to dancing. Additionally, a movie came out on Disney Channel when I was younger; it was called Ice Princess. The movie centered on a girl focused on physics and she had a similar project as mine: looking at the physics of ice-skating.…

Already warmed up and dressed in my costume, I was stretching onstage when I heard the announcer’s voice, telling the beginning of the Nutcracker tale. Hurriedly running to my position on the stage, I took a deep breath. Oh, I had never been this nervous in my life, and this was not even my first performance! Heart in my throat, the curtains opened, and I smiled at my friends, wishing them luck. Music rang throughout the auditorium, and I began dancing as Clara.…

My parents never anticipated me to fall in love with dance the way I did. From the youthful age of four till this day at age eighteen, dance has always been something I am remarkably passionate about. Out of everything I ventured into – soccer, cheerleading, gymnastics – dance was the one that stuck. “Mommy, is today a ballet day?” grew into a daily question when I got picked up from elementary school. It was something I became unusually infatuated with, I yearned to be around dance as often as possible because I just could not get enough of it.…

Dance has always been something I am passionate about, but as a little kid, it should have just been something I did for fun; I should not have put so much pressure on myself. Although, in a way, it is good that I have always gotten nervous, because that means that I care about doing…

The theme was Fire and Ice, I remember being amazed at all the skaters doing these huge jumps and fast spins. The costumes were so bright and colorful; with righnstones on them that sparkled like fresh cut diamonds. But my favorite part was when the announcer would call the names of the skaters when they did something extravagant. I knew right then, that I wanted to be a figure skater. When I start a program, I stop thinking about what im doing and just repeat to my self “breathe” over and over again.…

It all started after my friend’s party, where we all went ice skating for her 9th birthday. It was my first ever time stepping onto the ice, a long time before my life revolved around the sport. Even though I had never skated before, my friends and their parents told me that I stood out compared to the other girls. After I realised how much I enjoyed it, my mum decided to sign me up for the learn to skate program, where I progressed through the levels and soon learnt the basics of ice skating. After completing all the levels, I got a coach and also decided to join the synchronised skating team for my level.…

I take a few pictures, but Dad is the photographer and I am anxious for him to arrive. Suddenly it’s time: warm-up at 9, competition 9:05, in the Freestyle 3, 7 & under category, two competitors joining Christy, the youngest of the group, and her friend, Rebecca. Now it’s her turn and she proudly takes to the ice in her sweet garnet red dress. The music of Annie fills the rink and off she goes, flowing across the ice, little jumps, hops, spins, and a leg in the air floating on one skate. In no time she is finished and Mark and I are clapping arduously.…
