On June 4th, 2016 my father asked me if I wanted to go beaver hunting. It was getting real dark so I wasn't sure if I wanted to go. It was my first time going beaver hunting and I didn't really understand what you do. My mother told me it was dark and you could hear every frog and cricket out there. I decided to go anyway to get the thrill of killing a beaver. My dad and I got in the truck and left. As we arrived, we got our guns and flashlights and then began our journey through the woods. It was very hard to walk through the wood since it was so dark you could barely see where you're going. I would start walking and the next thing I know I get hit with a tree limb on the head. As I raised my gun up to shoot I lined it up and pulled the trigger. Nothing happened. I guess I was so excited that we finally saw one that I forgot to take it out of safety. By the time I raised it back up, he went under the water. I was a little disappointed in myself, but my dad told me not to give up yet so I didn't. We stopped and stood there for a minute or two and you heard the noise again I was ready to shoot. My dad was looking and he saw him finally I might get my first beaver ever. I went again this time took the safety off. I raised up and took my shot. We thought I missed at first but we heard his flapping his tail and swimming around acting crazy. I injured him well he swam up to the bank and I had to shoot again to put him out of pain and I was jumping up and down with excitement. That night I got my first

I loaded a shell, took my safety off and mounted the gun and was ready to shoot. I yelled “pull” and out came a bright orange clay bird what seemed to be traveling faster than the speed of light. I pointed the shotgun at the clay bird and pulled the trigger and the bird exploded. He told me to shoot more so I put 4 shells in the tube and put one in the chamber then yelled pull. I broke 5 straight, which is pretty good for a first timer.…

My dad would always remind me “You just have to breath and stay calm then aim at the front shoulder and squeeze the trigger.”…

It was a brisk fall morning in November. I had woken up extra early just to make sure I could make it out to my stand before the sun would peek above the horizon. I’m not much of a morning person, so waking up can be a difficult challenge for me. Since it was just my first year of deer hunting, my dad had agreed to sit out in the stand with me just incase any trouble came about. I quickly brushed my teeth, got dressed in blaze orange from head to toe, grabbed some snacks, and began the journey out to the stand where I would be sitting for a while.…

My First Deer One brisk 30 degree day in January, when I was nine years old, was a day for which I was extremely excited. My dad got me out of school earlier that day, so we could go deer hunting. I had already shot a turkey the year before, so guns were nothing new to me. We made a quick stop at my house so that we could pick up the .243 youth edition, a really short barreled .243, that my dad had bought just about a month before so that we could go hunting, and I would actually be able to handle the gun. At this point we did not have the hunting land that we do today, so we went to my grandpa’s house and hunted in the clearing of trees behind his house.…
