Personal Narrative Essay: The Journey Of A Lifetime

The Journey of a Lifetime Throughout my years on this Earth I have had the pleasure of traveling to many different far out corners of the United States. In all these countless hours of exploring, I have never seen a place as utterly perfect as the one is I about to tell you. The journey all started for me when I graduated high school. For some odd reason, my parents thought that graduating high school was the biggest accomplishment anyone could ever complete. In my eyes, I didn’t think it was that special since 83 percent of the US teenagers graduated just like me. They decided that graduating high school was such a big deal they wanted to take me on a trip. My father said he would take me on a journey of a life time to an island in the …show more content…
I jumped on the chance to spend time with my father before going away to college, so I hurriedly agreed to go. The trip was 2 weeks away and every day before the trip seemed to drag on. I was so stoked to be going on such an adventure I packed my bags a whole week in advance. Finally, the day of departure came, and it was time for us to load all our gear in my rusty blue Ford pick-up. Our plan was simple, we would drive the 7 hours from my home in Illinois to the boat docked at Hancock, Michigan. The boat was then to take us to the mystical Isle Royal. The car ride seemed to take ages, but we made it to where the boat was supposed to be docked, the only problem was there was no boat. I started freaking out telling my dad our trip was ruined, but my dad just smiled and told me to look around. I looked around, but only saw a tiny seaplane docked in the water. Then it all clicked, we were never meant to take a boat…He told me he wanted to surprise me with my very first ever plane ride. Believe it or not, at 18 years old I had never been in a plane before. I was a little nervous, although I would never admit that to my father. We boarded the plane with 2 other strangers and took off for the Island. We flew over the majestic banks of northern Michigan, and then slowly gained …show more content…
We found a perfect spot within the first 20 minutes of looking, and set up our small tent. We unpacked and laid our sleeping bags in the tent and finally had everything set up. It was about 7PM at this point and we decided to go see what the small lodge by the dock at to offer for dinner. We both got a greenstone burger and were satisfied. We walked back to our tent and feel asleep instantly. We woke up to the sounds of birds chirping and the cold wet dew soaking into our tent. We quickly munched on some food and quickly got everything packed everything up, eager to start the day. When we started hiking my dad told me he had another surprise for me waiting at the dock. We hiked over to the dock and this time I saw a boat with fishing poles on it. My face lit up, we were going fishing. My dad booked an all-day charter fishing service to catch native lake trout. This had always been a dream of mine and it finally came true, I was about to fish for monster lake trout! We boarded the medium size sea vessel and the captain gave us a rundown of what the plan was. We were to fish off the island coast in the morning, take a lunch break, and then finally fish a small inlet. The captain started the motor and we spud off from the bay into the choppy waves. Once we hit the depth he wanted the first mate attached the downriggers to the

We brought our fishing poles even though we didn’t think we were going to catch anything. The canal was very cold and there was no fish out that day but we still had fun. After a little while of fishing we continued our hike among the High Acre Creasent Trails. As Andrew and I were walking along the trails we came across a small pond and we hung out there and discussed our days and we met up with a few other friends. Once we got to the end of the trail we turned around and started back.…

When I woke up we went to a restaurant and ate for about 30 minutes, then we went home and took showers and went to bed. The next day we got up and ate breakfast. When we left there we got in the car and went to the beach, and swam for mostly the entire day.…

Every time I go to visit my grandparents in Florida we go fishing. We take their little boat out onto the salty sea and sit for a while. One of my best memories was when it was getting late and we were going to start heading home. But I hadn’t caught a fish yet, so I asked “Papa just one more minute”, he laughed and gave me that one more minute. Almost in an instant my bouy went underwater and I reeled in a giant silverfish.…

Remember the last time you were at a casino and you heard all that yelling at the craps table and wondered “what are they yelling about”, but you never ventured over there because you are too intimidated by craps. You’re not the only one. I used to watch from a distance trying to figure out what was going on, people were throwing chips everywhere yelling all sorts of crazy jargon (“press”, “same bet”, “hard 8”, “odds”) all while the dealers are moving chips all over the place paying people and taking other people’s money. What a crazy and intimidating game.…

My ropes course experience, was very different than my peers. I came into the unit with the biggest fear of heights. Even climbing to the top of a latter gives me extreme anxiety to the point where I feel light headed and short of breath. Also when everyone is watching me go up, that really triggers my anxiety. My goals for this unit may seem small to some, but very challenging to myself.…

I remember in fourth grade my teacher insisted that we come to school the following day dressed as we would in our dream career. In that moment, I realized how I enjoyed creating new ideas and designing fashion. I then reminisced on the day I got my first Barbie. I use to mix and match her clothing with previous dolls I owned. I wanted all my Barbies to look original, unlike most little girls who bought their matching clothes in a plastic pack.…
