Driving with me is not unfamiliar to him, since he 's been a frequent passenger of mine since I received my license. He is not the kind to worry, fret, whine, or complain, which I am thankful for. However, a small fault though it may be, I often find …show more content…
It was one of those “shoulda-coulda-woulda” moments for me since this whole situation was totally preventable on my part, yet I didn 't do anything to keep it from happening. Expletives flew through my mind as I scolded myself for getting into this predicament. However, as hopeless as it may have all seemed, I was a man with a plan. It was time to bring out my old friend, "systematic search." The idea of using a “systematic search” to find my destination is not an untested theory to me; although slightly time consuming, it got me to where I wanted to be the last time I used it. Thus, with renewed hope, I began to keep track of where I had traveled and where I had yet to travel. If at any point nothing in my vicinity looked remotely familiar, I told myself that I could just turn around and head in the opposite direction. Eventually, I was hoping to find a street with a familiar name that I could take all the way to McAllen, which I did. Thank goodness for street signs and turning

Stopping twice, for about a half an hour total, Charity was not sure how far they actually made it that first day. Having come to a bend in a good-sized river, she halted the wagons about thirty minutes before dark; it looked to be a good camping spot. She thought it might be the Oconee River she saw on the map at the mercantile, but was not sure. She had tried to memorize the map, however, seeing it on a two foot by three foot map hanging on a wall and actually traveling it, were two entirely different realities. At first, she tried to stay due north, but it was not possible unless they plunged the wagons off into the river; she opted to follow a well-traveled road that followed the river- she knew it had to go somewhere important; that was…

U.S. Route 52 winds and curves diagonally from the South Carolina coast to the Canadian border in North Dakota. 2,072 miles of pavement stretches through forests, fields, cities, and small towns, but only one one hundredth of a mile means anything to me. In a lonely passage connecting Dubuque to Bellevue, one specific spot shortly after a break in the trees, for one second, allows you to see 180 degrees in every direction. I anticipate it on my drive home and slow down slightly as I approach it.…

He was holding the fire stick that had been at the campsite since last summer, his tall, lean figure tilting forward into it. His pale skin gleamed with sweat from building the fire as his eyes took in all the raised hands from beneath his darkened glasses—the pair my best friend Phoebe and I always made fun of him for looking so geeky in—which he denied were actually Transitions.…

My experiences over the last six years living in NYC have shaped me into the approachable and compassionate person I am today. I have been immersed in a melting pot with many different culturally and economically diverse populations. These unique experiences have broadened my horizons and allowed me to gain valuable communication skills and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I searched out opportunities to give back and help the people in my community both in volunteering in hospitals, educating high school students, and interning in private practices. I even traveled with the organization Medlife, setting up a medical clinic to provide basic medical care and education to people in the poor and underserved communities surrounding Lima, Peru.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…
