The boy sitting alone with his finger in his nose, the giggling set of girls on the swingset, the boisterous boys picking on a kid half their age, or the quaint group of boys and girls playing tag in the grass. Over the years, the friends they picked on the first day of school will change, grow, expand, but nonetheless these people will be the ones to …show more content…
She has taught me how to overcome the large challenges in life such as adjusting to high school, dealing with anxiety, and choosing a college. Knowing I always have someone to not only support me in my decisions, but also someone who will direct me from what is right and wrong. It becomes difficult to always decide everything myself, so I appreciated a friend who can provide me with insights I might not otherwise have thought of myself. She is always there, even when not wanted. The forced friend. Unsure of when she wedged herself into the group, she often states unwanted or irrelevant opinions. Talking with her feels like talking to a stranger, and the amount of topics in common are minuscule. Along with the unnecessary comments, her attitude is never positive. The constant complaining about how terrible her life is never fails to put a damper on the mood. Although unwanted at times, it feels important to have a friend to complain all the time. She puts events in my life into perspective and I can realize how blessed I truly am to not overreact about the smallest events. Without a negative friend, I might run the risk of becoming

My first week of high school was pretty good. I like all of my teachers, and my classes are in a good order. It was difficult waking up early on the first day because prior to then, the earliest I had woken up during the summer was 8:00. I got lost going to FACS on the first day, and then again on the second day. I found my regular classes easily enough, and I haven’t gotten any tardies.…

On the first day of school, I remember walking into class and seeing all of the new people in my class. I also remember meeting all of my new teachers. I had no idea how much that I would learn, and I had no idea how much I would struggle to learn the new material. One particular class that I feel that I have learned a lot in is WHAP. WHAP stands for world history AP.…

The Grades Challenge Freshman year was a difficult year for my grades. I was failing a few classes and it seemed like the harder I focused on the percentage, the farther I got away from it. I talked to my teachers about how I could try to get my grades up and was simply told “you won’t get a better grade.” I was stuck with what I had is what I was told, and they ended up being right about that year. I was worried that maybe something was wrong; maybe I wasn’t as smart as I used to be.…

Writing was not a subject that held my interest in high school. Throughout the last twelve years I have found myself having to write letters, proposals, and business correspondence for my employers. I would complete the assignment and move on to the next task. Deciding to further my education I enrolled in Daytona State College and my first class was your ENC 1101. I have seen a change in my pre-class writing style; I have honed my skills, and the different techniques I have learned while taking this course have only improved my writing style.…

As I went to my first day of school in a new city I was nervous, I didn't know if I was going to make any new friends, if I was going to fit in. The first day began and I immediately met Randy and Byanca, little did I know at the time that they would be my friends for all of my school career. Time went by and so did the grade levels, I would always struggle with one subject and thrive in another. During my elementary and middle school years I would struggle in language arts and history, but I would thrive in mathematics mainly because I love numbers.…

Short shorts. Short shorts as far as the eye can see. This is what I saw all over ETSU’s beautiful campus as I went one day without my cell phone. Initially, I thought nothing much would come out of the seemingly uninteresting assignment, but I was mistaken. It proved to be an eye-opening day, mostly because I saw how much students were on their phones, I learned that I am terrible at telling time, and I can now cope with my social anxiety instead of jumping to my phone.…

“It won’t be this easy in college.” I believe every high school teacher has said something around those lines at least once to their students. While the statement is somewhat true, the idea can easily be debunked with the statement “It is only as hard as you make it to be.” My experience with English 1010 was that it indeed was challenging, but not hard. I stayed on top of my assignments and did my best on them so I wouldn’t feel the assignment was completed half-heartedly.…

I began freshman year by walking into a room of tall faces and crossed ankles. Up until my arrival in class, I had not seen entering high school as a significant transition. My legs were tall in new shoes and, with my arms were wrapped around a petty hoard of books and number two pencils, I felt prepared. However, two minutes into the school year, my confidence blew out of my chest. I eyed the senior class of 2015 from the doorway and imagined I was a comma after a long line of capitals.…

A Triumphant Moment There I was a junior in high school starting my second semester of school taking a welding class. At first we had to do a couple of lessons out of a book and pass the tests before we could start welding. Once we finished the tests we started to weld on scrap metal for practice. Then the teacher would look at the welds and make sure we were improving. When we were done with welding and scrap metal and showed we were proficient at it she said it was time for us to pick a project to start on.…

Before I began my Freshman Development Seminar course with Professor Furet, I believed that this class would not be of good use to me. The reason for this was because of my beliefs in self-teaching myself to learn the basics with additional help from other sources. However, it did not turn out the way I wanted it to be. Therefore, I had to pay to get taught what I could have done on my own, at least that is what I convinced myself then and there. Throughout my class sessions with Ms. Furet, I learned more than I could have ever imagined.…
