Personal Narrative: The Aquaovo

Two days and two nights of my Europe trip slipped past my fingertips so quickly as if it was sand. What was once the present was quickly turning into memories, into presents that I will cherish forever. So far, everything was good, but nothing spectacular that I expected to happen has occurred quite yet. As dinner time of the third night rolled around, I knew what to expect; the Aquaovo. While the restaurant was not familiar to me, it was for my parents, given that they have been there numerous times before during their past trips. Although it has only been one day in Florence, the day overflowed with compliments and praising remarks of the Aquaovo, and despite how much it annoyed me, I was determined to find out what the hype was all about. What sets the Aquaovo apart from other restaurants lies in its atmosphere. The conjoined tables allow people to converse freely with each other, even if they didn’t come together as one party. That excited me, but at the same time, the same question repeated itself in my brain, as it always had- What will people think of me?
During my parents’ stay, they sat next to an old, free spirited professor at the University of

As he wiped his hands with a wine-stained cloth, his scrawny legs guided us to our table, and we plopped our hungry bodies down next to a group of college kids; two extremely beautiful blonde girls with two guys, one who couldn’t cut his meat with a knife and one addicted to his phone. By coincidence, I happened to sit right next to one of the girls and as I sat down, I immediately noticed my Asian features pop; how dark my hair and eyes were compared to her blonde hair and blue eyes! A pair of high heels clunked into my muddled Adidas sneakers, which I responded to by averting my eyes quickly and pretending to examine the

When I got home today, I decided that I would give myself 15 minutes to relax and then I would input the data into Portia Pro. I set an alarm for 15 minutes however I ended up falling asleep and sleeping through my alarm. I woke up at 12:30AM (my husband and his Grandparents drove to Ninilchik tonight to be able to go fishing tomorrow morning. Normally if I fall asleep by accident usually my husband will wake me up). I think I found a way to re-open Portia Pro by going into the program on my desktop computer and clicking on the session in the calendar view.…

“A leader has to watch every word he or she says and quickly learns that you can’t go through life without a few critics, some well deserved” (pg. 5), this quote as some of the beginning words from MacDonald truly shows that a leader has responsibilities to uphold to. I found it interesting that he showed these responsibilities are not only external, but internal as well. Many do not realize the internal battles that leaders in ministry go through, and in order for leaders to handle a situation in a mature manner; they must uphold to the responsibilities of character they are expected to maintain. There are many internal and external expectations of leaders that are specified in Building Below the Waterline, but only some really stood out to me as factors that I would practice more than others in my leadership positions.…

“Put some meaning into your words,” said my chorus teacher as apathetic faces and idle mouths stare back at him“ A folk song of this magnitude should not be sung with such a light heart”. My ears tune into the dissonant voices surrounding me slowing interpreting the lack of passion already evident to my teacher. Subconsciously, my eyes and head slowly move downwards trying to shield themselves from the wave of indifference flooding my class. As I open my eyes, I am met with the gaze of the words boldly printed on my sheet of music - Wade in the Water. My thoughts are delayed as the urgent words capture my attention only to be interrupted by a piece of my reality.…

My experiences over the last six years living in NYC have shaped me into the approachable and compassionate person I am today. I have been immersed in a melting pot with many different culturally and economically diverse populations. These unique experiences have broadened my horizons and allowed me to gain valuable communication skills and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I searched out opportunities to give back and help the people in my community both in volunteering in hospitals, educating high school students, and interning in private practices. I even traveled with the organization Medlife, setting up a medical clinic to provide basic medical care and education to people in the poor and underserved communities surrounding Lima, Peru.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

“Shes coming back right?” a baffled 7 year old asks in response to the appalling news of her mother’s death. A vibrant imagination is accompanied by a crushing pain of reality that trails behind it ; I discovered this when I heard the words “no” . 10 years later, that conversation lingers in my head and holds not a cacophonous nor euphonious sound, but instead holds the neutral tone of reality, an alarm . As routine , at 6a.m., I hear a melodious alarm followed by the pitter-patter of my aunt who is getting ready for work.…

In eighth grade I had decided I wanted to swim competitively and run track within the same day. I would run with the track team after school, then go directly to swim practice, with the only rest in between the two was the thirty minute car ride over. As well as the only thing for me to eat was a builder's bar, or whatever my father had in his car. Competing in two sports a day wore me out and took a tool on my body. I was offered to swim with a lower class that was at a later time in the day, by my coach.…

To recall meaningful memories, it has to be done with people that cherish the moment. I can remember almost every day swimming at the Arcola house because of my Grandma Pat. When you can look back at memories that you made at a young age, you remember the details of the scene and the lessons you learned. Before I was able to swim, I would always risk jumping off the diving board and paddling over to a side wall. Before every time I jumped, I would look across the pool and see grandma watching me.…

I grew up in Hawthorne, a small, quaint town located in Northern New Jersey. There I met my three best friends—girls with whom I have traveled, spent hours doing homework, and simply enjoyed being in company with. We grew up together in a predominantly Italian, close-knit, traditional neighborhood where our moms always watched over every one of us, teaching us the meaning of “community”. In my time of need, when my father passed away, le miei amiche and their families acted as and became my second family. They would each coordinate early morning school pick-ups, after school homework revisions, and, still to this day, the bonus of home-cooked Italian dinners.…
