It was the first day. I was aghast the moment I stepped foot into the gym. The buzzing sound of the lights slowly turning on, and it had an old scent to it, the scent of when you walk into an old house or the smell of leather. I had no idea what to expect or what I would be getting myself into. My mom accompanied me, partly because she was my coach at the time. Thankfully she was there or else I would’ve gone into panic mode. When I was younger I was not that outgoing, unlike now anyways, I am very outgoing. I was very shy, so stepping into a gym with a ton of other kids like me was very terrifying. I had a passion for them. Along with basketball, I played soccer, volleyball, and did gymnastics. I had only participated in gymnastics for four years because I decided not to continue because I enjoyed the more competitive sports. I got involved with summer and club teams and was busy 24/7. There came a point where I had to choose one of the two. I had to be committed to one that I would dedicate the next few years of my life to and willing to put in the work. Something about basketball hit me. I had fallen in love with the game. Just the feeling of being on a court playing with my friends and getting to show what I could do and compete just filled my heart with ecstasy. So, I had quit soccer to play the game I was in love with, because I was not able to attend both soccer and basketball all year round. Therefore, I chose the sport at which I had more passion for. I had now entered high school. It was my freshman year. I was as nervous as could be, just like I was when I was younger. Elementary school basketball and high school basketball are two completely different things. I knew what challenge I had ahead of me, and I was ready to take it on. The end of my freshman year was actually a really good year for me. I had my first experience with varsity basketball and I also learned what I had to do to better myself and reach my goal. Not only had I been playing for my school team at the time, but I was also involved in a club team. I play basketball all year

While growing up, sports have always been a big part of my life. At the age of only six years old, my parents first signed me up for coach pitch softball. Little did they know that I was going to fall in love with the game and that they were going to have to spend countless hours at softball fields during the spring each year watching me play. Being so young when I first started playing, winning and losing did not matter at all. As long as I got to throw, hit, and catch the ball, I was happy.…

I wasn't excited because I knew it was just another event for families and it was going to be packed in that gym. As I reluctantly marched in with my classmates I saw my parents and brother sitting in the seats taking pictures and smiling, while everyone else had people yelling every way to look at them I could focus on the three most important people in my life. It was then I realized how fortunate I was, I got to have a great life in a beautiful state with my family. It wasn't chaotic most of the time because there was so many of us, we could do so much more with it just being us, and through this my parents taught me that while it may be hard being on your own it's worth it. Throughout life we decide whether we want to be athletes, be in the band, or just enjoy school and just enjoy being free. As a child I chose to play sports, and not just any kind of sport, I chose to play volleyball. Volleyball is such a demanding sport physically and mentally and no matter what age level you play up to. Of course volleyball was not the only sport I played but it was the only one that made me look forward to practice every day. For example, I also played basketball until my senior year of high school and every morning I would wake up and dread coming to practice but was fine after practice.…
