Personal Narrative Essay: The Experience Of Being A Cow Horse

Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. While most little girls were daydreaming of becoming a ballerina or a princess, I was dreaming of being a cowgirl. I started taking riding lessons when I was five years old and it’s something that I still absolutely adore. Being so young when I started, I’m honestly not sure how I managed to do much of anything with the horses, but what I do know is that I enjoyed every single second that I spent at the barn. The smell of horses has never bothered me; it only makes me feel at home. As a young girl, I had always fantasized about having a horse that I could call my own. Christmas morning rolled around as it always does, and my dream came true. My family had taken turns opening all of our presents and it was down to the last four. My brothers, sister, and I each had one present left and we opened them one at a time. Mine was a big bag with a t-shirt, a magazine, and a large black picture frame with a photo of Paco. I had no idea that these three items were supposed to represent the fact that I now owned a horse. I was kind of confused as to why my parents were both looking at me expectantly, I thought it was just a nice picture that I could hang on my wall and a magazine that I would enjoy reading. Though my first clue should have been the fact that both the magazine title and the shirt said something that had to do with owning a horse. My parents must have realized that I didn’t understand because my mom began to explained that the horse was now mine and I was completely shocked. Later that day, my dad brought me to the barn to visit Paco. I got to spend the afternoon with him and my trainer gave me the official certificate stating that Paco now belonged to
