Beep Beep Beep Beep my alarm was going off and I knew it was time to hit the woods. I went downstairs and dad had been already awake. My mom had coffee and hot chocolate in thermoses. I ate pancakes my dad had made before I was up, I looked at the clock I saw that is was 4 in the morning. I was surprised because I usually would have been tired, but I knew today was the day I get a deer. I go to the gun closet and grab my youth 20 gauge Mossberg, I throw on my blaze orange jacket and hat. I grab my lunch and head to the truck. I get to my uncles woods, climb out of the truck to load up the gun and start walking. The walk to my stand is about a 20 minute walk. I start on the trail with my cat eyes on my hat and gun in both hands. I can't shoot …show more content…
Your mind blanks you have so much excitement you don't know what to do. Of course this isn't my first time hunting and watching my dad shoot a deer I know what to do but i'm so amazed I actually shot a deer I just can't think, but dad knows what to do he tags the deer and says you got a nub buck. A nub buck isn't the oldest or biggest deer, but it's not a faun the deer is about a year old. after we tag it my dad gets to work gutting the deer and dragging it up to the shed. We hang it and get ready to cut it up. My dad cuts the legs off, then the head, and starts to skin it. All the parts we don't need go into a bag and the meat we cut off goes into a different bag the back straps are wrapped separately. Then the deer is done and we throw it in the back of the truck and drive away to put the meat in the freezer. After you shoot a deer the adrenalin starts pumping and you're shaking so hard you have to stand. On that day I can still remember how happy my grandpa was that I got a deer, he may not be here today to see the deer I shot but I will always remember how proud he was. That day I learned something, that being patient always pays off even know that it's hard but still is worth

We came across three bulls and cut them off before they could get to the swamp with the car. We sped in front and I jumped out and started firing, Wilson and I brought down two and we had to hop back in the car to chase the third, but we successfully brought him down before he escaped. The feeling was unlike anything I’ve ever felt before, it was truly exhilarating. I’m not really sure how to describe it other than that. Margot seemed upset about the bulls, but I don’t really care. I’m here to hunt and it felt damn good to actually be doing so. If she has a problem she can stay back next…

One brisk 30 degree day in January, when I was nine years old, was a day for which I was extremely excited. My dad got me out of school earlier that day, so we could go deer hunting. I had already shot a turkey the year before, so guns were nothing new to me. We made a quick stop at my house so that we could pick up the .243 youth edition, a really short barreled .243, that my dad had bought just about a month before so that we could go hunting, and I would actually be able to handle the gun. At this point we did not have the hunting land that we do today, so we went to my grandpa’s house and hunted in the clearing of trees behind his house. We walked up to the stand my dad had set up. We climbed up the stand, about ten feet…

When the time came and I was old enough my uncle took me shooting. This is what started my interest in the outdoors. After we were done shooting he told me one of the biggest surprises of my life. My uncle told me that he was going to take me hunting. When he told me this I was the most excited kid in Arkansas. When I got home after shooting I ran into my house yelling that I was going hunting next weekend and I couldn't wait. When that time finally came I packed my bag with all the hunting stuff my dad and I had bought for this special day. So there we went on the drive to Madison county where my uncle lived.…

ALTHOUGH RESEARCH CONFIRMS that the whitetail rut takes place at almost the exact same time every year, most hunters know that the rut’s intensity varies from day to day. As much as your head spins with the mental images of scrapes, full moons, rubs, monster bucks, and rut-crazed chase scenes, the best times to be in the woods will rarely coincide with calendar anniversaries. Through years of personal experience and research gathered from other hunters, Cory Wiedel is one of the most accomplished whitetail hunters. He has taken 11 Boone and Crockett– class bucks in the past six years, and he places a priority on going after his scouted target bucks only when he recognizes that the conditions are favorable.…

Seven hours into the hike we have not seen a single deer and wish that Scott would have just let me pick the hunting grounds. But he kept insisting that this place produces monster whitetails. I finely decided to ask Scott. “I thought that this place had monster deer.” “Ya, a buddy at the gym told me so”. I swear that all the creatine is messing with Scott’s head, or his mom played soccer with his giant head as a baby. Either way, he isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. We kept walking on until I smelt something oh to common for a ABC agent, death. I whisper to Scott, “Do you smell that?” “Ya I do, smells like something died in your pants”, Scott says. I told Scott, “No, I am dead serious, smells like something is really dead.” That’s when Scott pointed and told me to look at a ball of sharp wooden spikes. A poor Fawn was impailed by the ball and had been dead for days. That’s when I said to Scott, “sure hope that’s not the only deer we find.” Scott…

But when you are walking in the woods you want to try and act like a deer by how they walk also hunters can do this by walking in a erratic stop and go pattern, but simply most easiest way is to just go with the flow because you will never have the same hunt. Deer are mostly accustomed to hearing squirrels running through the leaves and limbs falling from trees, but if a hunter goes out and doesn’t spray any scent on him to cover him up a deer will smell you from miles away and won’t come to your stand. Deer live in the wood twenty four hours, seven days a week they know what sounds are normal to them and what sounds are not if a hunter makes just the slightest noise of something slamming against metal when you are climbing up a stand the deer will get curious around their territory. Another thing that all hunters should do is not let your guard down because the minute that you do the biggest buck of your life could walk right past you and you didn’t get the shot off, but if you don’t let your guard down you have to be calm and quiet because when you see the big buck your adrenaline will kick in and your heart will be racing so much but everything can happen so fast in a blink of an…

The Adrenaline that a hunter feels being in the top of a tree stand waiting for the perfect deer to hunt is absolutely incredible, however hunters are not always lucky enough to find their prey. My dad and I began going around the ranch a day before we went hunting, we looked around to see where the biggest deer’s were located. We tested and align the rifles, to leave everything prepared to go hunting the following day at dawn. We were very positive that we were going to be lucky enough to hunt a big trophy deer, tough the results we had were never crossed our minds.…

From oryx and coyote to deer and sheep to name a few. Also from rainbow trout to mahi mahi, fishing from the shores of little streams and mountain lakes to deep sea fishing on charter boats. They were all amazing experiences with really awesome people and have left me with more knowledge as well as many other stories. However, it was only the beginning of last year that I began to be serious about bow hunting. I practiced and practiced until my shot group was consistent. I gradually worked my way away from the targets until I was shooting diagonally from corner to corner across my yard to get as much space as I could. Shooting between trees, practicing different positions and successfully missing my dog in the process. I was determined to be successful in my first hunting season which started in October of last…
