Snow Storming Day By the age of 8 moving was a reoccuring theme in my youth. My parents and I moved from Ethiopia, to Uganda, to Davis, and at the time, to Maryland. After moving many times, the change in schools, friends, and lifestyle was easy. However one thing that stands out in my mind about Maryland is the weather. The cold, humidity, and snow were things that I was unaccustomed to, and found very interesting at the time. In my mind, there was one special event that stood out above all. It was the winter of 2009, and around mid January, after the new year had began, I woke up one morning to an astonishing 4 feet of snow that had fallen the previous night. Before going out, I peeped out of my living room window, the view from downstairs made the snow look much more treacherous and menacing and less playful. Looking back, I realize that this was due to my short height since the snow was around five feet high, and at the time I was a mere four and a half feet tall. However, looking on past the scariness of the snow and onto the fun that could be had, I put on an enormous snow jacket accompanied by pants and a sled. After my attire was checked by my parents, I charged across the street to a hilly park where I intended to find the perfect sledding routes. Although walking through the snow was an exhausting hike, the time was well worth it and I spent the entire afternoon on the snow. Later on in the day, after I had come in due to pure hunger, my parents had told me the electricity had gone off. Under normal circumstances this would have been enough to damper my entire day since it meant no tv, heater or hot water. For the rest of that night, the house got continually colder as well as the meals. By nightfall, the only source of heat was a skimpy fire inside the home. That night we all slept downstairs around a fire which was as flimsy as paper in the wind. That night I could not sleep a wink and even though I was cold and in need for warm food, my mind was battling between remembering the
