If you have not already heard the Japanese have attacked my base here at Pearl Harbor. I am captain of USS Arizona and I have failed them. Hundreds of my friends and fellow marines have died yesterday on that ship, and I wish that I could see them once again. I know that I will never be able to see their faces again because my ship is now sitting at the bottom of Pearl Harbor. It was just a normal Sunday morning on December seventh, and I woke at at seven o’clock in the morning because I had to be on the ship at eight to decide our route in the Pacific. Therefore I got up and took a shower, brushed my teeth, and got dressed. I got ready faster than normal so I decided that I wanted to be early. When I left the house it was seven thirty five and I was only ten minutes away from the USS Arizona. I got half way when I realized that I forgot my hat back at home. So I turned around and headed back to my cabinet. When I arrived back I could not find my hat anywhere. I looked top to bottom until I finally found it under a pile of clothes. I looked at the clock and it read seven fifty. I knew I would now arrive right on time so I started my journey to the ship. When I was walking I heard a faint sound of a plane. My first thought was, our pilots do …show more content…
I looked down at my left arm to only see half it there wrapped in a big white bandage. Without even realizing it I started to cry. Not knowing why this had to happen. Wondering to myself why me, why today. Minutes later the captain of the USS Pennsylvania H. B. Wilson approached me. He told me that 1,177 of my men died yesterday and that the USS Arizona got hit four different times by Japanese bombers. My heart was broken, but that could have been me. If I had not forgot my hat I would have been on that ship and would be one of those men at the bottom in the ship right now. I am grateful that I am still alive even if it is with one and a half arms

You would think people who have next to nothing in their lives, would want everything they could have their hands on. After spending a week with people who had less then me, I understood that I was completely wrong. I learned that people who have nothing are the most caring and empathetic. The people who lived at the camp we were staying at, greeted us with open arms and warm hearts. As a mission team, we were obviously caring people.…

The flight to Panama was long and bumping as I flew aboard a C-141, this aircraft is no longer in service. As I departed the aircraft, I was met by oppressive heat and humidity. As I looked around my new surroundings, I could not help but think that it looked as if someone had laid a giant green carpet over the landscape. It was definitely the most beautiful country that I had seen and, in my opinion it still is. The tarmac was busy with all kinds of activity going on.…

I had to work the next day, so I did not have time to even think about the test results. I was called to the office to speak with my childcare trainer. I thought she had observed me doing something wrong in the classroom, because that is usually the case when you are called to the training office.…

Almost four years ago, I entered Clackamas High School as a confused, shy, awkward freshman. Soon after entering the hallways of this school, I was assigned to a Freshman Assurance group and met with the group leaders. My group leaders were vivacious seniors, who were condescending and gave very little advice on high school. I felt a little intimidated by them, and the activities that they led made most of the freshmen in our group uncomfortable. They told us about their craziest stories and about the teachers who weren't of the most pleasant experience.…

During my time at Electric Boat, I was one of two lead engineers assigned to refurbish a damaged chilled water pump on a nuclear submarine. Neither the requisite spare part nor a new pump was available and the vendor had quoted approximately $500,000 and 6 months for the replacement part. When the Navy had determined that the repair was beyond their capability, the pump was shipped to us. We developed the concept of machining out a small teardrop shape from the damaged impeller and pressing in a machined sleeve to restore the piece to its original specifications.…
