In both the passage of Boy's Life and "Emancipation: A Life Fable," I noticed some interesting events. The events that happened in both stories or the conflicts in both stories may not be the same, but I can still draw a similar theme in the texts. That theme is "taking a chance can be rewarding." I think that this is a theme in Boy's Life because Cory Mackenson thinks that his teacher might not really have a summer to go home to. Therefore, he tries to make the end of the school year a little better for her.…

GROWING UP Growing up, I didn’t have many luxuries, if any. The best thing I had was being a 5 minute walk away from a convenience store. The house I grew up in was infested with cockroaches and was falling apart within the walls. The dining room was so small, some of us had to eat on the floor. We only had three bedrooms, so my three younger siblings had to sleep in the living room.…

In the book “This Boy’s Life: A Memoir”, by Tobias Wolf, the author often illustrates Jack’s coping mechanism to escape the unpleasant parts of his life. Using his coping mechanism of imagination made his life more endurable without the restraints that are placed upon him. In particular, his coping mechanism would involve him using his imagination to imagine where he wants to be in life and how much of a different boy he would be if he grew into a high class family that did not have any problems. Often during the day, Jack would be off smoking a cigarette and putting on a façade of manliness as he would describe how he did things such as “kill the turkey in Chinook”.…

Both, "Boy's Life" and, " Emancipation: A Life Fable" have very similar themes but, there are some differences. The theme in the story "Boy's Life" is that one person's view on something could be completely different than someone else’s. The theme from " Emancipation: A Living Fable" is that you should take risk sometimes because you’ll never know what you’ll be missing if you don't. The similarities that both stories have that help to develop the theme would be that they're both stories that have to do with leaving somewhere.…

“Don’t forget, the paper is due next Wednesday!” My 8th period teacher, Mrs. Oakford told to my class and I as we streamed out of the cramped classroom on a Friday. We couldn’t wait to bust out of the schools doors and claim our prize of a short freedom for surviving another busy, exhausting, and slow week of middle school. I rushed to my locker, grabbed everything I would need for the homework due Monday, threw it in my bag and headed down the hall collecting my friends to walk to town to start what I would hope would be a slow but fun weekend off The weekend went quicker than I wished and before I knew it, it was late Sunday night and I still hadn’t done my homework, I realized this and got to work.…
