The Best Mistake I Never Made
It was two o’clock in the afternoon and we had just arrived in San Antonio. My mother and sister were busy chatting away in the front seats of our car, as grandmother lay fast asleep, with her head on my shoulder. And I, too busy singing along to music that lightly played in the background, contemplated what the next four years of my life would be like. I kept wondering if I had made the right decision. Originally, I had planned on attending the Texas A&M University, home of the fighting Texas Aggies! But recent family events led me to choose otherwise. For the benefit of my family, I stayed closer to home and thought “If Texas A&M University is just as great as The University of Texas at San Antonio, then surely

When I am asked what I am most passionate about, tons of random thoughts clutter my brain in the search for the answer. There is no answer, there is no one answer. Passion comes from different angles of emotions. I am passionate about anything that pulls me in to be more of myself. In that case, one of my greatest passions is helping others. When I was younger, I enjoyed helping my mom with household repairs. As I grew older, that habit grew and I desired to help others as well. I like helping people find solutions that meet their specific …show more content…
UTSA focuses on a curriculum aimed at providing real world experience through programs, internships, etc. It is one thing to learn the tools necessary in order to create positive change, but it is also necessary to gain an educational experience both in and out of the classroom. UTSA has given me more than I could have ever anticipated. Coming from a small close-minded town in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, it was this university that opened the world around me exposing layers I didn’t even know existed. It gave me eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart to listen. My purpose in seeking a higher education degree is so that I can have a prosperous and successful future. We have all heard that education is the key to success, and it is those words that I live by. I am seeking a higher education degree to better my future and my family. Smiling, knowing that no matter where I am meant to be, that I am indeed ready to take on the

Have you ever stopped caring so much that whatever happens, happens? I remember the time I had gotten in trouble by my mom because I had walked home from school. It was a gloomy day from it being so cloudy and cold. I was talked into walking home during school by friends whom, at the time didn't care about school as much as I did, cared nothing of school. I didn’t like it, but then again I started not to care either.…

I was 10 years old. I looked from the edge of the mat, unaware about the endeavor I was about to take the moment my foot touched that mat. I finally decided to walk on, like they had taught me by bowing, it was the first of a near million times I was going to do this. I was a white belt, at the best taekwondo centers in the area. All the kids, stood to the side eerily silent, waiting for instructions.…

It’s very strange how one experience or choice you make in your life can change the rest of your life that follows that event, would you then in turn change these decisions you made. Such as your what if your mom conceived you not on the knowing basis. What if everyone was telling her not to because she was to be a single mom and that’s not a world a child should be born into, but then what if she challenged this belief that she grew up with. This then in turn affected all her choices later in life, but then vice versa what if she didn't challenge this belief and stuck with what she knew. This may be of the more extreme choices in life that some people must make but we all have that certain time in our life that comes where we must break away and make…

For the majority of my life before coming to Texas A&M, I knew that I had to figure out a way to get here. Getting a college education would be my escape route to deviate away from becoming a low income family like my mother and her previous generations. My mother did the best she could to take of her three children by herself, but like many single parent households she struggled to do so. Due to my mom being the sole bread winner, there was often not enough money to maintain our household. I remember many days when we were only able to eat one meal a day that consisted either of half a chicken sandwich shared between my sister and I, or just a pack of saltine crackers.…

Growing up gay in machismo community had its difficulties. Not meeting the status quo can make you feel horribly excommunicated. Often times I would feel as if it was expected that I partake in "manly" activities that just made me feel uncomfortable. Cat-calling and football just weren 't for me. Because of this, I typically felt like I was a failure as a man.…

My Favorite Mistake It seems like everyone has a special talent. At annual school talent shows I would come up empty handed trying to think of what I could perform. It seemed as though I didn’t have any talents that I could perform. I received outstanding grades, I could easily comprehend literature, and I was quick at solving math problems, but I couldn’t perform any of those talents for an audience. I blame myself for my lack of performing talent.…

The essay that really stood out for me was the first one we did in class. It was called “Remembering an event”, I wrote about the first time that I had moved out of my parent’s home and decided to live with my girlfriend. I also had become a newly father at the time so I was put into a lot of pressure to make it on my own. I wrote about my financial difficulties and about how my optimistic I was with everything at the time. I ended up putting myself in a horrible situation due to many factors for instance my girlfriend losing her job, spending my savings, and after I saw my savings disappear.…

Falling a Little Short Most young children grow up recieving participation medals with pride while listening while their parents tell them that they tried their best.
