Narrative Essay About Summer

This summer was definitely one to remember. I may not have had the most exciting or eventful summer, but I cannot complain. I was constantly doing something with work, friends, and football.
When I looked back on this summer, I mostly remember working and working. It is not that I worked a ton, but that I did not do much else. I would be lying if I said I did not have fun working, it helps that I work with two of my friends, Riley Calhoon and Colton Best. We all work on Colton’s family’s ranch. At the start of the summer we mostly fixed fence and worked cattle. Most days went well, until the cows were not cooperating. Colton being the older one of us, tells me I have to drive the four-wheeler next to the bull and tie a rope around it. As I drive along side of the bull, the smell hits me and it is disgusting. To make things worse, the four-wheeler dies on me and will not start. I attempt to put to the rope on the bull, while the maggots are floating all around me. After many attempts, I manage to get the rope around, and Colton pulls it out. As soon as Colton got a weft of the dead bull, he puked. Being the two younger farm hands, Riley and I tend to get the jobs no one wants to do, fencing is definitely one of those jobs. One morning we drove along

In this excerpt from A Summer Life, Gary Soto recounts a memory from his early childhood. As he walks through his memory, Soto recalls the effects sin had on his still developing mind; however, looking back as an adult, Soto realizes that the root cause of his naive fear was his Catholic upbringing. Soto satirizes the Church in an attempt to prevent the perpetuation of the overbearing “Catholic guilt” on younger generations through the use of this powerful anecdote. From the beginning of the excerpt, it is quite easy to see that Gary Soto was raised in a Christian household. He states that he “was holy in almost every bone” thereby implying through hyperbole that he held a very extreme point of view when it came to his religious purity, yet he gives a caveat with the word “almost.”…

Over the Summer I personally thought that it was going to be hard to improve on something. But honestly if you try hard enough, it’s actually quite easy. My summer goal was to have both my left split and straddle by the time school started. It seemed like a fairly easy goal to keep up with. I accomplished part of my goal over the summer.…

What I did This Summer This summer I did a lot of things, I traveled, went zip lining, and most importantly I spent time with family. This is probably one of the best summers I have ever had because my mom took off work to be with me and my brothers. Usually my dad stays home and he really isn't that fun. On the other half I got to go to my Dad's house because the way it goes for summers for me is that I have to do. The best thing I had to do all summer is I went to Alabama with my aunt and my grandma.…

It was the summer of 2013, I went on a vacation to see my family in Mexico and to my unfortunate luck it was the worst summer ever! Not only did I got sick from eating food off the street stands and had to babysit my younger brother and take care of my mom as well, I was unfortunate enough to be hit by a drunk driver at a party. I should have known it wasn’t going to be a good year because before leaving we didn’t get plane tickets so we drove there, the car didn’t have a/c, and we got stuck in traffic twice. The ride alone was terrible for the most part; it’s summer and in Texas the weather was gruesome. I remember the first time we were in traffic in Louisiana I thought I was going to lose it, we made little progress in what would have been a two minute, one mile drive, it took us two hours to travel that one mile.…
