The Best Day Of My Life Essay

Decent Essays
October 27, 2008 was the best day of my life. My younger sister named Shawneequa, 14 months, my younger brother named Vern, only three years old, and of course me, I was 5 years old. T’was the night when my mom and dad were consuming lots of alcohol with friends who I didn't even recognize, and I know they have a lot of friends. They were in an argument and complaining about each other about who’s doing what and why there doing it. There was lots of hollering, banging, and screaming going on coming from our house. My mom's aunt, who was a next-door neighbor at the meantime, was getting suspicious and decided to call the police to come over and see what was happening. A few minutes later, I could hear the sirens get louder and louder as I saw …show more content…
We were driving to Eagle Butte, but at the time I didn't know where we were rushing to. We got to this place called the Department of Social Services or DSS. That's where I met some positive and nice people named, Carla, Tammy and Alicia. After meeting all of the workers there I was excited to see what was going to happen next. I can remember when we had a birthday party for one of the workers who I really can’t remember at the moment. After a few pieces of cake and a full stomach on junk food, my siblings and I were playing with toys. That's all I can remember as of right now. We had to wait a little while until one of the workers came to get us. After a few minutes that felt like an hour, Carla took us into a grey-ish tinted car and started to drive. I see the street lights pass by and these buildings I somewhat recognized. After seeing no more street lights and buildings, all I could think of at that point was sleep. I didn’t know where we were going at the time, but I woke up to this sound of someone saying, “Come on, it’s time to wake up.” I got out and I noticed that this blue house was behind this big …show more content…
That following morning was okay. I kind of got use to everybody now. After meeting everybody and getting asked a few questions again, Jordan and Josh took Vern and I outside. She told Josh to go play with my brother and she wanted to talk to me. She said that these people are very good people to stay with. I started to say I was missing my mom, but she interrupted me and said, “Yea you will, but remember you are in a safe place and nobody is going to hurt you.” I just looked at the ground and started to play with the grass. I was playing with my brother and was having fun. The next thing you now I was eating dinner and I probably looked like I was being a hog, but I was hungry. Then dinner was over and we all laid down to take a nap. It was pretty peaceful I would say. After my mind kind of quieted down, I fell into a deep sleep. The other thing I can remember is waking up then that night going back to bed. I can only remember a few things from those two

I thought that maybe it was my neighbors, since they are always working on things at all hours of the day and night. When I heard another loud noise, a short time later I decided to go back downstairs to see for myself what it could be. When I went downstairs, I noticed my Uncle Mike standing up looking through the window of the backdoor. He was staying with us that evening and was asleep on the couch when he heard the noise too. What defines a "good" day? Is a good day characterized by an abundance of luck, extravagant events, or can it be more mundane? In my opinion, a good day occurs without planning. It's a day where the universe seems perfectly aligned and undeniably wholesome from the very break of dawn. Somehow, every miniscule detail of a good day contributes to the euphoric emotions that the subject of said good day experiences.…

I felt all the heaviness of this world in my lower abdomen and a series of painful contractions that I had never felt during the last nine months. I was home alone…
