Personal Narrative Essay: The Another Day Of School

Darkness, that one void of nothingness; nobody likes it, and today is another day of school. Too bad the light switch is on the other side of the room. “Samuel!” Mom furiously screamed as I got dressed in the dark. Turns out, I woke up way too late. I told her that the old, cold, and bumpy couch in the basement was going to keep me up all night. Plus, now Ian and Luke are going to be all over me! Heh, they never finish their homework. Without me, I can’t imagine the consequences they would get. Ever since the rule about… “GET DOWN HERE NOW!” Mom screams with more volume and more anger than before, but at the same time, causing me to lose my train of thought. I get in my mom’s car as quickly as I can attempt to regain my statement I lost early that morning. So I made it to school and as I previously stated Ian and Luke didn’t do their homework, unlike me, unless it’s math. I can’t imagine them being like Timmy. Timmy isn’t his real name, we just say Timmy as if it was a code name. I wasn’t in his class, but I do recall some kids telling me what happened. And a dozen failed attempts at time travel. I think we're doing fine. But what I forgot is that Luke was this huge science nerd, so one day he walks up to be and he’s all like, “Hey Samuel! I found it out, I got time travel!” Of Course I didn’t question it because first off I wouldn’t remember, and second off, I wouldn’t really care. So I go up to Ian and say something along the lines of, “Hey your other nerd friend found out time travel.” and Ian replies in more of a sarcastic tone, “Yeah, we're only a year late!” So Luke takes us to the time machine and… it’s a car. Why a car you ask? I don’t know. Luke tells me he thought of back to the past with the Prius design. Anyway, let’s go back to the past. Or about a year and two days back, to be

Apparently, the whole airport area was flooded already, transport had come to a standstill and all mobile networks had been jammed. She told me that she had been trying to catch a ride home, since an hour earlier but no taxi would take the risk of getting stranded in between. I went to my room to finish up my homework and reward myself with some cartoons on television but I felt listless. I stared out the window and prayed for it to stop raining but it didn't seem like it was going to stop anytime soon. I walked around the house bored out of my wits, waiting for my mother to call and confirm whether or not she would be coming…

But the next morning it was as worse as ever, possibly even worse. It would be horrible to be her I decided. To be well for a bit then go right back to being sick again. Whenever Mama went to her (Lacy’s) room she dove under the covers the moment the light was turned on and screamed for it to be turned off. I really wasn’t supposed to know, I was supposed to be fast asleep in bed until Mama came to wake me at 7:00 for school.…

One day they would ignore each other, the next the would be yelling in their faces. This really affected me; it made her lose track of my homework and studying time because of all the attention I was giving to them. She spent all day at school, trying to fit in homework from other classes in between while all night she tried fixing problems between my parents. Even on top of that, Shaun broke up with me because she apparently “doesn’t hang out with me any more” and Rachel is nothing but a long lost friend to me. How has my life come down to this?…

I knew that this oncoming conversation wouldn’t be pleasant, but I wasn’t expecting to see my mother in tears yelling and screaming incoherently before running upstairs again. Not knowing what was going on I followed her upstairs slowly and hated what lay before me. I was just locked in my room, shaking and trying my best not to rip everything in my sight to shreds. My arms were red and raw from me clawing at them trying to get everything out of my head. My dad had always left me alone if I didn 't want to see anybody, but once he heard me screaming and throwing things while I was alone in my room, he didn 't care. He ran into my room to see me sitting in a ball in the corner with a broken lamp thrown across the room.…

The school was hell despite all the posters informing to “behave” desirable. It was time for another school-day, for obvious reasons very paradoxical and difficult to apprehend why my presence should exist at school. Math was especially the representative subject no soul in class could ever interpret fully of what Mrs. Johnson kept on writing on the board which seemed a consuming wasteful effort. When the clock ticked at 3:30 pm and the bells clanged, every student galloped out of their sits like a mouse being chased by a growling cat. The school was finally over after the hardship of 7 hours.…

When parents go to wake up their kids in the morning, it can be as if they’re trying to wake a mummy. Some parents may have to nudge and shake their kids just to get them out for the bus on time. This can be the worst possible situation for a parent, especially if they have a job they need to be to time. According to an NPR podcast called, “Parents of Sleep-Deprived Teens Push For Later School Start Times.” “Cristina Sevin knows the drill.
