Personal Narrative: Suddenly I Become Me

Suddenly I Become Me There are many incidents in my life that have stuck with me till this day. Some have helped me, some have broken me, and some have defined me. Some of those incidents have been sad and upsetting, while others have been some incredible times. Here are a few of my favorite memories while growing up. I just moved in with my mom the summer before third grade. We lived in the town of Cushing, Oklahoma, in a one-bedroom house that was somewhat in someone’s backyard. The house beside ours was an old, creepy, abandoned house. The house across from ours was exactly the same, but a homeless man was living in it. One day, we were having a family cookout and my mom’s boyfriend Tim wanted to go look around in the abandoned house next to ours. There were probably about five of us that walked in through the back door of this abandoned house. We walked slowly throughout the house looking at all the stuff left behind and at the strange writings on the walls. When we reached the front of the house, there was a bedroom on the right side. My mom’s boyfriend opened the door and we all began to walk in. When I noticed there was someone sitting in a chair with a yellow sheet over their entire body with a knife in their hand, I was in such shock I just stood there for a …show more content…
Surprisingly, he didn’t come after me. He said he and my step-mom just looked at each other in shock and just busted out laughing. About ten minutes later he calmly walks into my room and puts a plate with a slice of bread on it and a wine glass of water on my desk. He then informed me I was grounded. I didn’t respond and he walked out the door and locked me in. I sat in my room for hours that day and did absolutely nothing. My dad came in and checked on me and asked if I needed anything. With a sarcastic voice, I asked for more bread and water, and he went and got me

Nowadays nobody had enough money to take care of their own family let alone a stranger. The furniture consisted of a bed, chair and cupboard all of which were made out of wood. It was a bright, summer day in Greensboro, NC. Aubrey, Molly and I were walking through our neighborhood coming home from the pool. As we were walking to go home we passed an old abandoned house that has been in our neighborhood for years . Aubrey always told us how we should look inside, so we all decided to take a tiny glance and see if there was anything in the house. When we looked inside the house we noticed that several lights were on, and that there was furniture in every room.…

Each day a man came in three times and would leave food for us but I never got see him. When I asked my mother about him she said it was a very nice and caring man that I would get to meet when I got older but she would never mention his name. At the age of ten my mother got the news that my father’s brother had died due to an accident.…

When I think about the boy who I was growing up, the young adult I am today, and the man I plan to be in the forthcoming years, one aspect of my life stands out to me far more radiantly than anything else: my culture, my skin, my identity as a Bangladeshi-American. There aren't many clubs or organization for Bangladeshi Americans such as myself. Make no mistake, there are certainly events for Bangladeshis living in the United states, many that I have attended due to various entreaties from my parents. These are event where the only language spoken is one that I barely speak (Bengali), the only music conversed about is that which I don't listen to or understand, and the only events discussed happen in another country that I have spent only a…

There are approximately 397,000 children in foster care in the United States of America currently and I used to be one of them. However, foster had not even been near the forefront of my mind that summer. The summer before I started my first year of high school, I had plenty of anxiety about the tall tale I invented in my own mind that stood before me. Stories about how hard high school were numerous and often regaled on the crowded bus ride home by high schoolers who seemed to have the knowledge of every wise teacher in history combined. which that scared me to death; I had always held my position as a good student who followed the rules of my middle school.…

Change is seen differently by different people. Some accept it while others deny it, depending on their values and mentality. This is seen in many places in today’s world, like political models, society’s values, and debates on environment based on science. Similar to almost everyone, life presented me with a chance of change when I was fairly young, end of 4th grade to be exact. I was asked by my parents to switch schools from a local medium to international medium of studies in India.…

Two years ago I was a completely different person. That may sound like a complete exaggeration, but looking back on the person who carried my name two years ago, it is shockingly true. Two years ago, I was the quiet, overweight, anxious girl who avoided social interaction as if it was the plague. Needless to say, I was not the most confident or outgoing person out there. I let my anxiety disorder rule my life, and let my weight be an excuse as to why I couldn’t do certain things.…

When we pulled up to the house the first thing I saw was the mud line that was left behind on the windows. It was about 6 feet high. At the front doorstep there was a deceased fish lying at the door. When I walked in the house my mom handed me a suitcase to go pack a bag full of things I would need.…

“A handful of moments I wished I could change, but I was carried away,” are the lyrics that remind a lot about myself. Growing up, and even about two years ago, I was insanely shy and did not talk much around people, friends, or family. The way I talked to people was in a timid, soft spoken way, which looking back, was awfully embarrassing. My friends and family would laugh at me because I could not talk well, and when I did talk, they acted as if I were a baby who just said its first words. With all of that nonsense going on, their idiotic response kind of made me not want to say anything anymore.…

When I’m asked about things that have changed who I am, I immediately think of my friends, and ex friends. Every day, people come and go in our lives and less often, these people are friends. For me, friends are hard to make (and to keep) and I easily lose contact with them. I have few friends who I know are true to me, they have been by my side for years and I know they won’t be leaving anytime soon.…

In my opinion, lessons are important because they have transformed me into the person that I am today. My main transformations were when my attitude started to change; I changed my looks to fit in; and I accepted Christ in my life.…
