Spending the night was always something common for me to do at my grandparents’ house. On this particular morning it was extremely cold outside. Not the type of cold where you just might want to put on two big jackets. It was the type of cold that made you want to cringe; even the whistle of the wind was harsh to your eardrums. The type of cold that the ligaments of your fingers ached from the chills attacking at them, even they were simultaneously begging you to get them to warmth. Now I was in the warmth still trying to completely thaw all the way. I had just gotten fussed at for even slightly thinking I was slick to go out there even for a second. Therefore, at this point I was on my feet mushing my toes into my grandmas favorite carmel …show more content…
He said it was a Tuesday night and they were all alone and his father was being rude and disrespectful as always and my grandfather looked at me and said” I had the chance to kill him, but I didn’t”. He told me him being dead wouldn’t have changed anything it would’ve been like him trying to play the role of God by just taking someone’s life away like that and that God still had him on this earth for a purpose. “God does everything for a purpose” he …show more content…
“Bad, that evil side, the evil parts within you or anyone, it never wins, it might seem since the world is just so corrupted and so much on the news is going wrong that it will, but it doesn’t”. I remember just taking in everything said to me, because I never expected for something of this sort to have occurred in his life, but it did. I knew he’s father was dead, but since he didn’t kill him I wanted to know what all happened, and he told me how when he got married he was nice to him and forgave his father for everything. He said he forgave his father more for himself, so he wouldn’t have to let that weigh his heart down. He had just gotten so sick, but that despite how his father acted he still was nice to him and tried to do as much for him as he

The civil unjust in the streets of America lives in the poems of Tracy K. Smith, a Pulitzer Prizewinning author of the book Life on Mars. Witnessing the death of her people at the hands of police officers, Smith feels troubled about bringing a new life into a prejudice world. In poems such as: “Unrest in Baton Rouge” and “They May Love All That He Has Chosen and Hate All That He Has Rejected,” Smith feels compelled to concentrate her writing around the absence of humanity through police brutality in the streets of America. We spent the first night of the trip in a motel in Donner, CA. The next day we continued our journey to the San Fransico Bay area, where my father had secured a job working for the railroad. The first two days in California we stayed in a nice motel, and it even had a swimming pool.…

For the duration of the winter months, people tend to develop habits specific the season. They make attempts to hide themselves under their thick covers in the icy mornings to avoid having to leave them behind. They put on a few, or perhaps more than a few, pounds to insulate their cold bones. Bitter or melancholy moods set in to reflect the weather. In Margaret Atwood’s poem, “February”, she makes use of similes and metaphors to compare humans to animals in order to emphasize her gloomy, apathetic tone in her discussion of human survival during the winter months.…

My mind was running its own thoughts as it planned the day I had ahead of me. I walked into my parents’ room, taking a sip of hot coffee from my mother’s mug. I knew she hated it when she would suck her teeth together and gesture me to get my own. The taste of the coffee would get me up and if I tried to make it like hers, I’d fail. She would always be rushing to get the first things done in my father’s family business, the smell of iron running through her oil stained t-shirts.…

A Critical Analysis of Richard Siken’s Crush Crush by Richard Siken is a phenomenal collection of poems that uses confessionalism to explore the speaker 's experiences with love and homosexuality. Siken uses strong imagery and diction to discuss the themes of abuse, love, and violence throughout the collection. For this essay I chose to analyze two of Siken’s poems “ A Primer for the Small Weird Loves” and “The torn-up road” . In both poems Siken is able to convey very powerful messages, and he uses his poetic ability to transform so much violence and abuse into beautiful art in the form of poetry. “ A Primer for the Small Weird Loves” epitomizes the struggle of a coming of age gay man/boy.…
