Personal Narrative Essay: Spending A Day In Hunting

Great Essays
Some people think spending a day in the woods is relaxing and peaceful. I used to think that as well, until I went turkey hunting. Spending a day in the woods hunting with my brothers was frustrating, hard, and aggravating all at the same time because of the mistakes I made. It was a life changing experience. Hunting will get your blood pumping and your heart racing you’ll end up wanting to go turkey hunting more than you ever thought you would.
You might think it’s a little insane to wake up at four thirty in the morning to escape into the woods, get bitten by all kinds of bugs and get filthy. But it’s what you have to do if want to hunt you need to get there before others do. And you also need to find a spot before the turkeys wake up to sit and call them with a turkey call known as a box call. But there is one downfall, you can’t shoot till the sun comes up. That’s a long wait from four thirty to six o’clock am. It was worth the wait and excitement of hunting with my two older brothers. They picked on me and teased me, but they are my brothers and that’s what they do.

My brothers told me that I would see many things that I couldn’t in the woods I never really believed them till that night. We witnessed an unidentified flying object while we were finding a place to call the turkeys. Bubba took a double glance up before he says some words that shouldn’t be repeated, but at that time we all looked up at this bright “star” moving from side to

But it’s also rewarding when you hang around long enough to get what you came for; and have the perseverance to not give up when it gets a little hard and challenging. The excitement of being in the woods during the day was the best feeling I’ve ever had, it was relaxing and energetic at the same time. I also learned that my brothers may give me a hard time but they will also try their best to help me accomplish a

ALTHOUGH RESEARCH CONFIRMS that the whitetail rut takes place at almost the exact same time every year, most hunters know that the rut’s intensity varies from day to day. As much as your head spins with the mental images of scrapes, full moons, rubs, monster bucks, and rut-crazed chase scenes, the best times to be in the woods will rarely coincide with calendar anniversaries. Through years of personal experience and research gathered from other hunters, Cory Wiedel is one of the most accomplished whitetail hunters. He has taken 11 Boone and Crockett– class bucks in the past six years, and he places a priority on going after his scouted target bucks only when he recognizes that the conditions are favorable. “There are certain weather-related…

When I went on my first deer hunt I was 10, I shot my first doe with my Savage 243. The doe was fifty yards when I looked down my scope and lined my crosshairs right on the front shoulder. When I pulled the trigger she ran twenty yards, I made a perfect shot on her. We went to pick her up to load her on the four wheeler. She was heavy, but finally got her on the ATV and drove her to the barn.…

Meals from Nature “Hunting as a family is by no means a new tradition. In fact, it used to be one of several traditional American family values(Staff).” Hunting is a normal, almost expected hobby of individuals from the South. Fathers will bring their sons, daughters, and wives along to a large plot of land and appreciate the beauty of the trees and the woodland creatures they’ve immersed themselves in. Equipped with either a bow or a rifle they wait for a mature, healthy buck to walk out into the open.…

Having lived in North Carolina for all of my life I am no stranger to southern culture. A large part of southern culture is hunting and I have been participating in that popular pastime since I was a little boy. This shows that he is able to supply and support his family with food if need be. My dad began taking me deer hunting when I was about six or seven; I wasn’t allowed to actually carry a gun yet though.…

It was in these places that I have some of my fondest memories that I enjoy revisiting. It was quite enjoyable for years, then for various reasons they allowed dog running and it completely changed the entire hunting camp. Dog running is where trained dogs are released to chase deer, hogs, and sometimes turkey from where they were to where the hunter is. It really ruined the land for most of the hunters. To the confusion of many, the hunting ground is where I spent the least amount of time while at the hunting camp.…

In mid October early in the morning the day was crisp and chill. The sun was just burning the morning fog off of the lakes cool waters. The dew on the grass and trees was glistening from the sunlight and the bird were singing their songs of jubilee . The entire woods were peaceful and still, and the sunrise was magnificent. During this moment I realized how beautiful nature is when the outside world is a distant memory, and all we need to do is take advantage of the little things life gives us and never stress the big ones too much.…
