"One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn't do,"this quote by Henry Ford reconnects when it comes to facing something you're afraid of; our fears. When we get over fears, we realize only then that we had the courage before to do that something we were afraid of doing. One time I was afraid was when I started ice skating. I was at a party for my younger sister's friend at an ice ring.…

The Bruins won the opening faceoff and started with a couple good shots on goal. The Blues gained possession of the and passed the puck around in our defensive zone. The puck was passed behind the net to Frank St. Marseille who was slammed into the boards right in front of me. I repeatedly banged my hands on the boards well screaming at the top of my lungs. The Tournoi International de Hockey is the biggest youth hockey tournament in North America and is held each year in Quebec City, Canada. Every year thousands of kids ages 10-12 come to this tournament, and I was fortunate to be one of the selected players from Georgia to play in this tournament. Through this two week tournament, I got the chance to stay with a family from Quebec and experience what they do on a daily basis. With this family, whom I am still in contact with today, I learned a new culture, got to tour the city and have some memories that I will never forget. To add to the experience, all the games were played the Pepsi Colisee, which is a NHL sized rink.…

Fear not your best friend fear Eagerly waiting for the sound of the final bell ending the game, I limped back to the locker room ashamed of failing my teammates once again. With my jersey drooping below my knees, I dreaded every second of ice time starring at a swarming pool of merciless giants. Receiving the puck gave you the opportunity to score, but for me it meant running into a wall. Running into other players sent me flying through the air before gasping for air and landing dazed on the verge of unconsciousness. The condemnation of failing to contribute to my team or participating in the physical aspect of hockey reminded me I was in a dark world of self-loathing because I couldn't accept this fact.…

I’ve been playing the incredible sport of Ice Hockey for over 10 years now. Although it has become steadily easier, and more about sharpening skills than developing them, in the beginning it was extremely difficult. The progress I have made since when I first began playing is immeasurable. I have come as far as I have in hockey through all the years of support from my father, because he’s always been happy to watch me play competitively.…

Lacrosse is something that I am very passionate about, and I want it to be part of my life even after I stop playing. I am also really interested in business administration and sports management. My internship gave me the opportunity to grow and expand my skill set, and also learn a great deal about what I want to do after college. Interning at Revolution Lacrosse (REV), I was able to learn so much about sports management, how it works, and how it can be applied in the workforce.…

It all started after my friend’s party, where we all went ice skating for her 9th birthday. It was my first ever time stepping onto the ice, a long time before my life revolved around the sport. Even though I had never skated before, my friends and their parents told me that I stood out compared to the other girls.
