Service for Others
Doing something for someone else without a reward, will make you feel that type of warmth in your heart? Apparently doing something for someone else without a reward is basically not being selfish and just being a good citizen that wants the best for this country. It makes us citizens look like a bigger person and also makes us look like we care about the rest of us in the civilization. Have the ability to actually try helping people especially when they don't have the same capability as you do to do most of the things they want to. I have once done a good deed with a woman that didn't know how to speak English in a store and another day in the immigration department and I was with my aunt that day. The day that I helped the woman translate in the store was because her son wanted something and they couldn't find, so she didn't know how to say it in English so I interfered and asked her if she needed help. She said "yes please, I don't know how to say can you please help us find this toy (showing me her phone)" so I found a worker and asked if they could help them find the toy from the phone. Once I they found what they wanted she said " Thank you very much", then I said " no problem, glad to help". That day I felt so happy because I saw the little kid looking happy and excited and

In another point of view there are a lot of people that decide to be disrespectful and not care for others. Caring doesn’t really mean that you should know them or you have to like them, but it has to come from the heart. Helping others can actually make you look different in other point of views, which can actually make you look better. You shouldn't do good deeds just to make yourself look good but because you mean it. If you don’t mean to do something then don’t really do it because if you are just trying to look good then your attitude can change

An example would be her putting cotton into Tom’s basket. She well enough knew the consequences but that is far from discouraging her from doing what 's right. I find myself often helping others on assignments or giving advice on something like an art project. Another kind gesture she did was she “gently cleaned Tom’s wounds and applied more cloths.” (pg.145).…

Every Life Matters I really only started understanding the meaning of abortion once one of my mom’s friends had one. Before that I had very little knowledge about abortion. My parents have always taught me to stand by what I believe and that others may have different beliefs. They always told me that I would meet people that would disagree with me and what I believe not only when it came to these kind of topics but many other things as well. Being told that, they told me to always respect people’s beliefs and their points of view because everyone has the right to stand by what they believe, just like I do.…

My experiences over the last six years living in NYC have shaped me into the approachable and compassionate person I am today. I have been immersed in a melting pot with many different culturally and economically diverse populations. These unique experiences have broadened my horizons and allowed me to gain valuable communication skills and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I searched out opportunities to give back and help the people in my community both in volunteering in hospitals, educating high school students, and interning in private practices. I even traveled with the organization Medlife, setting up a medical clinic to provide basic medical care and education to people in the poor and underserved communities surrounding Lima, Peru.…

“Shes coming back right?” a baffled 7 year old asks in response to the appalling news of her mother’s death. A vibrant imagination is accompanied by a crushing pain of reality that trails behind it ; I discovered this when I heard the words “no” . 10 years later, that conversation lingers in my head and holds not a cacophonous nor euphonious sound, but instead holds the neutral tone of reality, an alarm . As routine , at 6a.m., I hear a melodious alarm followed by the pitter-patter of my aunt who is getting ready for work.…

In this paper, I will argue that people who should be considered to be altruistic are those who act magnanimously to those outside of their family or general social group. I will use examples such as kin selection, animal altruism, and arguments against psychological egoism to assist in proving my thesis to be true. I will also address a counter argument made by some psychological egoists who believe that due to most people feeling pleasure while doing good things for others, that there are no people only act selfishly. I will reference James Rachel ’s essay “Psychological Egoism” to help enhance my theory that not all acts must be out of self interest.…

There are a couple of obstacles that have played a major role in me becoming who I am today. I've had naysayers trying to negatively influence my thoughts, and crush my dreams by saying that said I will never amount to anything, or that I should give up on my dreams and get realistic with my goals. A couple years ago I was a completely different person. I was out of shape physically, my academic performance was very poor, and I had a terrible attitude. Did you know thinking of yourself as fit actually makes you fitter? That's according to a 2015 study conducted at Texas Woman’s University. Researchers looked at a group of healthy women aged 18-30 and found that those who perceived themselves as strong and fit scored significantly higher on fitness tests than women who had lower self-esteem. The women were otherwise similar in BMI and frequency of exercise, which supports that there is in fact a psychological component to fitness. “If you perceive yourself to have high levels of endurance or muscular strength, you may partake in those activities more,” notes Wayne A Brewer, PhD, PT, CSCS, the study’s co-author.…
