Personal Narrative Essay: Poppy De Plant

Great Essays
I am Poppy de Plant, the last hope of my country. I am the last one alive of my family and the only botanist left in Columbia. Population has greatly decreased in Columbia, ever since our enemy, Venezuela has release a load of wild lions, jaguars, leopards and tigers into our land. The president, one of the few survivors, has given me a vital assignment. He told me, "You are our last chance. We need a plant that can save the people who have been bitten, by allowing the body to be numbed so we can operate." Right after he said this, a jaguar who had been lurking in the shadows, like a fly on the wall, pounced . The presidents last words were "Save my people. I can't leave them for dead". He bled to death quickly, since no one could operate. I vowed from that day that I would find the world's first anesthetic. I set out to save my people and become world- famous. Two days later, I departed from my hometown with nothing but the clothes on my back, a roll of garbage bags for collecting plants, my botany book, and my canteen. I wandered around like a lost puppy for days, so many that I lost count after day four. I stumbled into a jungle, with trees towering over me like giant umbrellas, late at night. "So this must be the famed Amazon," I muttered to myself. The plants blindsided me for a few days with their magnificent beauty and fascinating properties, but then I remembered why I was there. I gave myself a pep talk. "Come on... You are the soon to be worldwide famous botanist Poppy de Plant. You must find this plant, Poppy. Don't fail your country!" I knew I was on the brink of one of the most important discoveries this planet has ever known. I just had to figure out which plant was the right one, even though there were hundreds of thousands of plants in this Amazonian Jungle. I was cautious, because I knew that if I tried one dangerous plant, it would all be over. The pressure was on me, Poppy de Plant, despite the fact that I was only 22. I recognized how important I was to my country, so I trekked on. By then, it was nighttime again, and I had to find a safe spot to spend the night. I could only fathom the dangers in this Rainforest; therefore, I needed a shelter to sleep. I searched around and found what looked like some sort of a decayed tree-house that had crashed to the ground. I carefully walked in, trying hard not to touch the splintered wood. I laid out garbage bags on the ground and slowly drifted off. I woke up, and the first thing I saw that morning shocked me. No, it wasn't the plant I was looking for. It was a capybara, who had decided that my face was a good seat to sit on. I screamed. I knew the plant I was looking for was right under my nose, I just had to find it. I threw the capybara off my face with new purpose; I had to find this medicinal plant. The capybara ran screeching into the forest. I didn't know this at the time, but that wouldn't be the last I'd see of that darn capybara. I continued to sort through the leaves and plants while comparing them to my botany book. "Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!" …show more content…
I don't know if it was a week or an hour. And then I realized, I had done it! I had saved my country from the lions, jaguars, leopards, and tigers prowling around on our streets and in our towns and forests. I stuffed the fifty trash bags that I had left and filled them with the miracle plant that had saved my life, and will hopefully save hundreds of others. I knew that I had finally done it, and I would become world- famous for it. The world will never be the same, thanks to me, Poppy de Plant. No more would I be a biologist studying plants all by herself. I would be swamped with job and there would be books written about me. I marched on with new found energy. I arrived back at my town, administered all of the medicinal plant. Never again would my life be the same, thanks to my discovery of the first

Let’s focus on the good and you will see just how much your everyday life, as you know it, was effected by the great plant exchange brought on by the Old World.…

The Braiding Sweetgrass introduces about the relationship between us and nature, and the importance of nature in our life. Moreover, it provides us a chance to think about the value and the necessity of nature that we have forgotten for a while. The plant part I chose to observe was an acorn. Although I was uncertain about what I was supposed to find, I took mental notes of the acorn and its location. The acorn, light brown in color, wearing a rigid little dark brown cap, had just fallen off a tree by the Agriculture Sciences building. It seemed abandoned in a sense, just left to lie on the concrete, among dead decaying leaves, and other fallen acorns. It looked as if it had been left to die.…
