I was sitting in the waiting room and ring, went the phone and that means it's my time to go back and get ready. My mom started telling me that it will be ok, and I started to believe her, but when we got to the Hospital I lost hope. Before I went to the hospital my family and friends tried really hard to keep me calm before this big endeavor that would change my life forever. One of the things they did was talk to my pastor at my church about blessing me before the surgery. My priest blessed me by saying in a holy voice, “Please God protect Emily from all harm during this surgery, and please be with her during this hard experience.” Another wonderful gesture my family did for me was put on a birthday party, since my birthday was only a couple days after my surgery when I would be still recovering. After the celebration came to a close I went upstairs to go to bed, but before I fell asleep my mother came into the room with a gloomy look on her face.…

When that was over I laid into my hospital bed waiting for further instructions. She came back with really warm hospital blankets and had me lay down. She was rubbing special stuff all over my arm and told me that the next park was gonna hurt a bit. I looked at my parents, and they said everything was going to be fine. She poked an IV into my arm, when 2 anesthesiologists, one on the older side, and one very young walked in and started to make really corny jokes.…

A traveler taps the side of the vehicle to board, pays, rides and then taps to jump off at a desired destination. For one particular man who sat with his face covered by a towel, that destination was the Diegue clinic in Port-au-Prince. All I knew from intake was that this patient was here for a foot issue. I noticed the adult sitting uncomfortably, a towel wrapping his foot, as his eyes scanned around the room.…

Scraping your knee on the sidewalk, getting hit hard with the basketball, falling off the monkey bars, these are just a few examples of ways you can get hurt at school. The worst case scenario is you would end up going to the school nurse as a result of an accident. Before first grade, suffering an injury was way out of the norm for me. The only time I got hurt in first grade, I bypassed the school nurse and went straight to the hospital. It was a scalding August afternoon, and I just finished another tiring day of first grade.…
